Remarkable Run of Performances
Before you laugh, I will go through one of the greatest runs of clutch performances I've ever witnessed in NCAA basketball history by one kid. Granted it's Idaho State and the Big Sky conference but it's my adopted home town and I have seen a bit of it.
His name is Kenny McGowen and here's what he's done the last 3 weeks. Against Sacramento State, down 3 he makes a 3 with 8 seconds left gets fouled, turns it into a 4 point play and a 1 point win. Against Northern Colorado in overtime, down 3 he goes coast to coast for a layup with under 30 seconds left, gets fouled, makes it and they win in 2 overtimes. Against Weber State 2 days later (they are actually good...at the time 16-3 and 8-0 in Big Sky play). Down 1, McGowen makes a 3 pointer at the buzzer and Idaho State gives Weber their first conference loss. 5 days later at Montana State...down 1 with 16 seconds left McGowen makes a 3 to put them up 2...Montana State then ties it at the end. In overtime, down 1 again, McGowen goes coast to coast and scores with 10 seconds left and they win again. At the start of this Idaho State had a 3-13 record and 1-3 in Big Sky. They've now won 5 of 6 with the kid making 5 shots in those 6 games with the team down by 1 to 3 points with under 30 seconds left. I actually think it deserves some national recognition what he's done these last few weeks. Not a special player, for the year the kid's shooting 37 percent and 33 percent from 3 which makes what he's done even better in incredible clutch deliverance. Especially nice since he's a senior. I'll retreat back to my fantasy world now!!
