Default 1/15: Oaklawn Park (Opening Day; 6th-9th)

OAKLAWN PARK

POST-SCRATCHES

6th: ALW/N1X, 4+, 6f (.50 P4, .50 P3)

Most Likely: #3 Attain 2-1 WON ($4.00)
Best Value: #10 Be a Hero 10-1 3rd
Next Best: #6 Zip N Run 4-1 6th
Exotics Use: #5 Paganol 8-1 4th

7th: MSW, 3yo, 1m (.50 P3)

Clunky-looking set of 3yo maidens, many stretching out for the first time. There's a dearth of obvious speed involved and it's possible that Holiday Man (12-1) could get away early and wire a suspect group that appears littered with closing sprinters. Coming off best year of his career, cagey OK-TX circuit conditioner JR Caldwell sends NY-bred First Place Flirt (20-1) in this spot. Generally excellent with firsters, Caldwell is slightly stronger sprinting them for their debuts. This Warrior's Reward colt may ultimately want grass being out of Robert Tiller's multiple turf sprint stake winner Velvet Snow, herself a daughter of MG1W Subordination (Klaravich/Sciacca). But First Place Flirt is going to be a big price, has a long uninterrupted series of drills for this and may not have to be particularly special to gain a money slot..

Best Value: #9 Holiday Man 12-1 WON ($22.60)
Next Best: #1 Perfectly 7-2 4th
Exotics Use: #3 First Place Flirt 20-1 11th
Super Add: #2 American Road 5-1 9th

8th: 37th Dixie Belle, 3yo-F, 6f (DD)

Promise Me Silver looks to have ideal position right behind fast pace. Wins with anything close to terrific Letellier effort in Nola..

Most Likely: #6 Promise Me Silver 8-5 WON ($3.20)
Next Best: #9 Sarah Sis 7-2 2nd
Best Value: #10 Empressive Humor 8-1 9th
Exotics Use: #7 Toutsie Rules 4-1 8th

9th: OC/N2X, 4+, 6f

Nice to have Billy Gowan and Ride On Curlin back for his 4yo debut. Doesn't 'have' to win here at short number and away since Belmont easing. With so many coming off layoffs -- including Z Big Apple who only missed all of his 3yo & 4yo seasons -- think you want someone 'in form'. Plenty Elusive (8-1) may be a cut beneath classiest ones here, but seems to generally run his race and should be in good stalking spot no matter how the pace unfolds..

Most Likely: #7 Plenty Elusive 8-1 5th
Best Value: #3 Well Mannered 12-1 9th
Next Best: #6 Ride On Curlin 8-5 WON ($4.00)
Exotics Use: #1 Ali's Birthday 9-2 2nd
