![]() Although it was solely to my benefit, as the decision to run Kazoo made Silver Wagon a mortal lock in the Carter---however, running a horse like Kazoo back on one day rest to do the dirty work for Silver Wagon.....that's not exactly a great showing of class by this trainer in my opinion.
I know few horseplayers here really think he's clean, and Dutrow has had his suspensions and all---but, what he did in the Carter is yet another example of the extremes this guy will go to in order to take an edge. It's not that I have a problem with running a rabbit in a Grade 1 race to ensure the right kind of pace for your horse---or even to take away the tactical advantage from your main rival---however, I'm not sure what is more shady, running a 9-year-old like Kazoo, who's made over $600K, on one days rest, to go out and take Latent Heat and Keyed Entry apart---or to run TWO rabbits at a horse, and have them do a little more than just inject pace into the race, which is what happened in the 2005 Woodward....when two Dutrow rabbits assassinated Commentator....setting up the Dutrow trained Saint Liam to win stylishly, while restrained throughout by Jerry Bailey. The man surely does have an amazing and crazy life story---and could very well be as good a horseman as anyone---but.....from a fans standpoint, how can you possibly not despise this man? He's had some real nice horses to race over the last five years---Saint Liam his best male and Carson Hollow his best female....and may they both rest in peace. |
