Trainers racing for charity

Competition between Hong Kong racehorse trainers will take on a fresh and unique twist on September 9, the opening day of the 2007/08 season, when they ride against each other in a special charity event.

This exhibition dash will take place over 800 metres down the Sha Tin straight course before the first race of the new campaign. Horses taking part will be rated 60 or below and they will compete at "catch weights" - that is, without weight restrictions.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club will donate HK$200,000 to a locally-based charity of the winning trainer and owner¡¦s choice. Trainers and owners will decide in advance the charity they are running for.

Charity, sportsmanship and fun will be theme of this ride and no betting will be accepted.
