The Swansong(s).....
Red Clubs.....

(Racing Post) Red Evie on course for favoured trip at Longchamp by Thomas Deane MICHAEL BELL'S Red Evie remains on course for her planned swansong in the Prix de la Foret at Longchamp on Saturday week. The Intikhab filly has won nine of her 14 career starts and will bid to reach double figures over a trip she seems to love. Red Evie is five from five over seven furlongs and Bell hopes she can maintain that flawless strike-rate in a race that is also likely to feature the progressive Tariq. "Red Evie is still pencilled in for the Foret and she's in good order," Bell said. "It is intended to be her swansong, so hopefully she will give another good account of herself. "I suppose she's never run in a Group 1 race over seven before, but it is definitely an interesting statistic that she has never been beaten over the trip. "It would just be very nice to go out on a winning note with her." Red Evie is sure to attract attention at Longchamp, but her Newmarket handler is also eyeing a crack at another Group 1 contest with one of his fillies. Juniper Girl could only finish seventh behind Septimus in the Lonsdale Cup in August, but Bell believes the Northumberland Plate winner should be taken seriously if the rains arrive ahead of the two-and-a-half-mile Prix du Cadran. "We've also hopefully got Juniper Girl going for the Cadran," he confirmed. "If it comes up soft it'll be a real test of stamina and she could run well. "She stays forever and loves the soft ground, so if underfoot conditions do turnin her favour I think she'll be very competitive." |
