Giving prime athletes good homes is the foremost goal of the Finger Lakes Thoroughbred Adoption Program, and this year more than 100 horses made the transition from racers to riders.


Actually, not all adoptive horses raced — not all thoroughbreds are suited to it — but they were trained to do so. This nonprofit program retrains the equines so they can become show horses, mounts for police, trail horses, companions for other horses and pets.
