Oh So Awesome finished third in an overnight stakes race on the dirt at Belmont Park on May 19 in his United States debut. The colt combines elements of two previous Team Valor horses who hit the board in the Belmont: he is a European import like 1992 runner-up My Memoirs (GB), and he is trained by Jimmy Jerkens, like 1998 third-place finisher Thomas Jo.

"I'm a little apprehensive about this, because we usually buy them based on talent, not pedigree," Irwin. "With him, we were banking 100% on his pedigree—that he would improve on dirt since he's by Awesome Again. That's the play on this one. It's worth a shot."
