![]() A couple days ago someone on the forum asked for help figuring out how to bet a race. This strategy works great. I use it to break slumps. If I had sense (I don't) I would use it all the time.
Betting Basic Strategy Eliminate horses with no chance. Remaining horses are 'live'. The 'live' horse with the best shot at win or place is the 'pick' regardless of odds. Key the 'pick' to win and place in exactas with all the 'live' horses. Bet tri's and supers only when the number of 'live' horses is 5 or less and at least one of the 'live' horses is a good price. Here's how I bet the first two Breeders Cup Races. Marathon: 4-Cloudy's Knight, 5-Father Time, 6-Mastery and 9-Man of Iron were my 'live' horses. If ever a horse was bred for a Marathon it is Man of Iron so I made him my 'pick'. Bets: $1 exacta box 9 with 4,5,6. $1 tri key 9 to win and place with 4,5,6. Total bet $18. Result: 9W 4P 6S. Exacta $60. Tri $225. Juvenile Fillies: 4-Rose Catherine, 5-La Nez, 7-House of Grace, 8-Lillie Langtry, 9-Hatheer, 10-Tapitsfly were my 'live' horses. I felt Rose Catherine had controlling speed and really took to turf in her last start so I made her my 'pick'. Bets: $2 exacta box 4 with 5, 7, 8, 9, 10. Total bet $20. Result: 10W 4P 7S. Exacta $152. (PS - Flushed with success, I abandoned basic strategy, bet like a lunatic, never cashed another BC ticket and lost money overall.) |
