Bushfire is certainly no killer, but you know what, she's pretty good, and a better horse than Wonder Lady Anne L and that has been fairly conclusively proven. Her Kentucky Oaks effort was probably the best in that race as she certainly ran far and away the best race of anyone who was anywhere near the pace that day.
My point about the Acorn was mostly about a racetrack that was much more than unkind to ANY horse trying to make up ground. The simple fact is that none did. Take a good look at the completely ineffectual closes that every member of the field put in during that " staggerfest down the lane ". Sorry if I will defer to Wonder lady Anne L's actual pps when I reserve judgement that she would have been any more effectual than the remaining members of that field.

Then we disagree. I think that Wait A while would have buried these, buried them. I think that several horses who ran just didn't fire. Ermine is much better than that, as is teammate. I'm not saying that WOnder lady is better than those OVERALL as a horse. But I think on that day, she may have been aided by the pace setup and the fact that noone fired. She is much better than last Romance to me. And thats what I base it on. And they have the same type of style.
Big difference between ineffectual close and horses just not firing. They bleed, they entrap, etc and sometimes a bucnh just dont fire for whatever reason. It happens. Remember scorpions' Jim dandy win? Congaree bled, Ap didnt fire, etc. The best horse doesnt always win.
