Having heard the term before but wanting to be precise, I looked it up.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egalitarianism According to Wikipedia, the article itself referencing Webster's dictionary, there are two standard definitions for egalitarianism: "It is defined either as a political doctrine that all people should be treated as equals and have the same political, economic, social, and civil rights or as a social philosophy advocating the removal of economic inequalities among people or the decentralization of power." The first definition sounds like common sense and in keeping with the philosophical underpinnings of our Constitution. The second sounds like redistribution of wealth bordering on socialism. That one I will vote against. |
