9/20: Belmont Park (1st-9th)
Despite a slate that appeared as demanding as those that created the triple carryover, Belmont returned to a sense of normalcy Thursday to generate a $17k payday for more than 80 tickets. Favored Readtheprospectus ($3.90/5th), Selenite ($8.20/8th) and Hot Rendezvous ($4.60/10th) combined with 2nd choice Summer Shiner ($10.00/7th) and mid-priced 'shots Double the Energy ($18.20/6th) and Lawyer Jim ($17.20/9th) for a positive result that returned a nice amount of coin into many players' hands.
Earlier in the day, Jack Fisher continued his excellent summer-fall run upsetting a messy running of the Entenmann with Staying On ($29.40) and then came within a bob of sweeping the jump double minutes later. Leslie and Paddy Young put Gustavian into the 'chaser title hunt as the '12 Entenmann winner aced Belmont again in a thrilling Lonesome Glory win over Fisher's All Together. It was a bittersweet half hour for Gustavian owner Magalen Bryant however, as the Virginia doyen had to endure the breakdown and euthanizing of her Sulwaan out of the Entenmann. Staying On's upset in the opener and Roman Invader's wiring of the Parlo at 12-1 tripped another giant P5 payoff as the wager returned $8,051 to an estimated 13 punches (.50)! Nice Friday card features the return of 2012 Juvenile Champion Shanghai Bobby ahead of a weekend that features multiple stakes agendas at Philadelphia, Laurel and Charles Town.
