Pimlico may move Preakness to Sundays

I think they want to get a bigger crowd for Black Eyed Susan day. Friday was a terrific card. If they get about the same number on a Sunday for Preakness, it would be a win with the much bigger crowd for BES on Saturday.

That's exactly why they're doing it. They think their attendance would be better doing sat and sun. Id imagine they'd be right.

so, i read that article...and when they said 'it's always been here at pimlico' my ears pricked up (well, not really)...because i remembered reading otherwise. and sure enough:

'In 1890 Morris Park Racecourse in the Bronx, New York hosted the Preakness Stakes. This race was run under handicap conditions, and the age restriction was lifted. The race was won by a five-year-old horse named Montague. After 1890, there was no race run for three years.[5] For the 15 years from 1894 through 1908, the race was held at Gravesend Race Track on Coney Island, New York. In 1909 it returned to Pimlico.[6]'

i swear i thought they'd run the thing at laurel for some reason in the past...still looking tho

You could make Sunday some great family day like they've talked about trying to do with the Preakness and actually do the whole picnic-y, kid-friendly stuff in the infield without taking away the drunken affair of Preakness Day. Unless it's such a hot mess there post-Preakness that they can't clean it up in time. Is that why they're not super thrilled about having BES Day follow the Preakness?
