Cool to listen to segment on Denise Boudrot. She was a race rider for sure. She had her bug when I was a kid and was leading rider. She was one of the 3 jockeys that were truly loved by the fans at our Oceanside oval. The other 2 being the Howitzer, Howard Lanci, and the wonderful rider Rudy Baez , who was poetry in motion and could have succeeded on the big stage, but was paralyzed from the waist down in a cheap claiming race.
The fans were crazy for Denise. No one ever gave her any grief walking back as was the norm at Suffolk. This was before many girls were taken seriously. She was tough and had guts enough to go though holes. If you had a hoss in with a feather, she was the one for you as she tacked about 104. |

Have had big response to Goree Smith visit and appreciation of Denise Boudrot. Here's the SUF jockey colony of the the late 70's/early 80's with a remarkable 7 female riders in the room..
