Default 2019 Maryland Hunt Cup

The 2019 Maryland Hunt Cup features Senior Senator trying to win his 3rd Hunt Cup in his 4th try.

Senior Senator was the youngest to win in over 50 years at age 6 with his 2016 win. In 2017, he was 10 lengths back when he crashed at the 3rd fence and suffered a broken neck.

To see a picture of the repair and a story of his recovery, go to this site

https://www.vet.upenn.edu/about/pres...umphant-return

In 2018, he came back after 3 solid prep races to win The Maryland Hunt Cup by 5 lengths.

This year, he is using the same schedule and raced 3 times since March 31, once at 2.5 miles and 2 times at 3 miles, winning easily each time. The only way Senior Senator loses is if he falls.

After Senior Senator, it looks like a repeat of the 2018 result with Joshua G finishing 2nd and Drift Society finishing 3rd. Prime Prospector ran a strong race at My Lady’s Manor and can finish underneath. The rest of the runners do not have much of a chance.

The weather will be perfect and the ground soft after Friday’s rain.

Come by and see me in the Subscriber’s lot after the finish line run.

Good Luck at the races!

It's official, Senior Senator is a Super Horse!

Senior Senator won but it wasn't easy.

McLane Hendricks tried to run with Senior Senator on Our Town but ran out of gas at the 19th fence.

Drift Society passed Senior Senator after the 19th fence and was in front as they crossed Tufton Road.

Since Tufton Road is a blacktop road open to race day traffic until 2 hours before the race, the race committee spreads mulch over the road.

However, the layer of mulch was very thin and Senior Senator did a belly flop, slipping on the blacktop underneath and losing his hind legs. Jockey Eric Poretz did a masterful job to stay on, but gave up 6 lengths to the leader with 2 fences and 1/2 a mile to go.

Senior Senator fought back and both Drift Society and Senior Senator jumped the last of 22 fences together. Senior Senator had another gear and pulled away to win by 5 lengths.

Drift Society ran 2nd and Joshua G ran 3rd.

To see a video of the race and Senior Senator's belly flow with 1:10 left in the video, go to this site:

Good Luck at the races!
