I've watched the replay of Race 9 a number of times, and the more I watch, the more I am mystified about the DQ of #12 Brick Ambush from 2nd to last, apparently for interfering with #11 at the head of the stretch. There was traffic at that point, but of all of those involved, Brick Ambush was on the outside and maintained his lane. What were the NYRA stewards looking at? And, yes, I do have a bias since I would have had the ROI exacta 14 times if no change had been made.

After watching the replay myself several times and reading the comments on Pace Advantage your point is more than valid. Something happened but who did what exactly is dubious at best and the 12 looked like the least likely culprit.

There was a lot about that race that was strange. DRF has an article about it. I couldn't see that there was any contact between the 12 and any horse. The horse to his inside steadied, but I think that was more to do with the horse to his inside(the 7?) being pushed into him by the 1. According to the article, Castellano, the rider of the 7 lodged a complaint against the 1, but that was not relayed to the stewards, but strangely, the inquiry sign was next to the one and no other horse. Must admit I am no great observer of what goes on in races, but I think you could make a case for the 1 coming down and that seemed to be what the article in DRF was saying.

The famous quote of Justice Robert Jackson about the Supreme Court, "We are not final because we are infallible, but we are infallible only because we are final" seems to apply to racing stewards as well. I think that they got it wrong, but the race has been declared official as far as the bettors are concerned.
