![]() Flower Alley should roll in the Woodward this weekend. I'm also expecting a solid performance from Second of June in his 3rd start back from the extended layoff.
This will set up a tremendous race in the Jockey Club Gold Cup. All the talk will be about Bernardini vs. Invasor. That's a beautiful thing since Flower Alley will be let go in the 7/2 - 4/1 range and take it to the big boys. I will then mail a Todd Pletcher bobblehead doll to every Bernardini maniac that I know. I'll attach a note informing them that Barbaro would have kicked his a$$ as well. Since this thread is about slots/education, I guess I should keep my post somewhat slot/education related. I don't like slots. I like education. That's all I got. Word. Have had fun reading a lot of you guys and gals and decided to get involved. Good luck at the windows... ![]() Sure, at public schools tuition should be free to state residents. And we should have national health care. And everyone should have 5 weeks vacation.
Next issue. |

Again, not defending Hussein, but he was an entirely different animal from Bin Laden and the religious zealots. I don't think KRIM was saying Iraq was a paradise; she was saying what's up with spending all this money on this war we created, while we're slashing programs for our own fellow Americans to pay for it? (Correct me if I'm wrong, KRIM, I frequently am). Not that we actually are paying for it; gov't has swelled in size the past six years. God help our kids and grandkids when the bill comes due. All the slot machines in the world aren't going to cover it. I don't know enough about the slots issue in Ohio to have any insights-- though I wonder if the tuition assistance goes to all colleges, or just the state-funded ones, and to students who go to school out of Ohio or just ones studing in state? Anyone know? |

![]() I really believe that education up to a Bachelor's should be paid for by the state if you choose to go to a college or university that is in the state you live. Basically, if you live in Columbus and want to go to Ohio State then Ohio should flip the bill. If you live in Columbus and want to go to Notre Dame then you are on your own.
You have to look at the state of our country. We went from a farming to industrial/manufacturing to now a tech/service economy. The employers are demanding a certain skill or higher education from its workers. They day of graduating high school and getting a job at the local plant and working there for 30 years is basically over. Most people change careers 5 times in their working life. I would encourage everyone to get another degree in something other than what they are currently doing. You should always have a fall back plan. Also, studies show that certain socio-economic problems do not occur when a person has a college degree. Furthermore, states will benefit from tax revenue created by corporations coming to the state and having higher paying jobs. I really do not like the idea of starting out a life in debt and that is what essentially is happening to recent college graduates. Then the majority can never get out of debt. They file for banksuptcy and that effects every comsumer out there. The pay for jobs is not increasing with the level of interest rates and inflation. Basically, according to the recent Compensation Planning Survey purblished by Mercer Human Resource Consulting, pay increases are stagnant as corporate profits rise. I also believe that a person should be working through college. They do not need to work full-time but they need to work at least part time. Working gives a person a sense of responsibility and it teaches them a little bit about fiscal responsibility. The tuition and books are the only things that should be paid for. Rent, food, etc etc should be paid for by the studen/parent. The idea behind all this is that a person with a college degree will have greater earning potential. The higher the income the more tax revenue a state can collect. The person who would take advantage of the state funded college will pay it back in taxes over time. Now the key is keeping the kids in the state in order to collect the tax revenue. Lastly, anything that helps edcuate and better our society should be looked at closely. I am not for socialism, but I am for anything that is able to help a community, state or even our country. These are just my thoughts on the subject |

![]() I dont think anyone should waste their time going to college. It would be better served to take that tuition money and give it to the University of NYRA or Churchill Downs State College. Theres no better education than the one given at the racetrack.
If you need further proof of this just check out most of the people you see at the racetrack on a daily basis. Those are the types of people who should be running our great country. You can learn math, economics, psychology, art, and statistics at the racetrack. |

![]() You make a lot of sense euro. It can happen, it's a question of priorities.
One more item from my wish list. I think it's a good idea if the first $30,000 of a person's earned income is exempt from social security taxes. Eliminate the ceiling on s.s. taxes. This way every worker has a s.s. tax break, not just the high income elites. |

![]() And yeah, no age limits on being a college student! Gander, I think there are lots of brilliant people at the track, but I sure wouldn't want to put them in charge of dental health... at least not the ones I see at Belmont. ![]() |
