Default Outstanding Show 5/14

Hard not to feel a bit emotional when Haskin is telling those stories about Skippy. Know someone who recently lost a dog and is hurting as well. Just a great group of guests....I liked No Such Word but was scared off an across the board play b/c of how dead she was on the board as you had said....Congrats to Gus.

Thanks Rand.. Haskin and Durkin were particularly fabulous remembering Skip Away, and obviously could have gone on another half hour. Jerry Bailey was boarding a flight in Dallas or he would have chimed in as well.

Appreciate you tuning in and the kind words.. Hope everyone enjoyed what felt like a good week of shows.

It really was great. You know I really got into racing around that time and I remember not only what a neat horse Skip Away was, but how much the owners were kind of a part of the story. Rarely do owners get that kind of coverage. He was sort of their pet. Feel sorry for her, but I'm glad Haskin wasn't the one to tell her.

Haskin added this to the end of his Preakness article. Lovely.

* In an unrelated matter, our condolences to Carolyn Hine on the death of her beloved Skip Away. Carolyn, who has been recuperating from knee replacement surgery, was planning to travel, and her first order of business was to visit “Skippy” at Hopewell Farm. She has to be devastated, as Skip Away had become an everlasting link to her late husband, Sonny, who trained the 1998 Horse of the Year. Carolyn’s greatest thrill was seeing “the two men in my life” inducted into the Hall of Fame. This is a wound that will never heal and we grieve along with her, as Skippy was one of our favorite horses of all time, and as tough and rugged as any horse we’ve ever seen. It is hard to fathom his heart ever giving out. He also was a major part of our daughter’s childhood. We brought her to visit Skip Away, Sonny, and Carolyn and their family of cats on numerous occasions, and those memories will never die.
