Surpised that Acting Happy isn't in the Delaware Oaks. Two months since the Black Eye Susan score, just about right for today's super trainer.

Maybe she's playing the Homeboykris role for the Alabama.

Alabama is the plan.

Funny how his claimers only need 24 hours rest, but Stakes horses need 6 weeks or more.

I thought he said he was running her in the CCA Oaks because he thinks she'd love 10fs.

He probably realized it was only 9f this year, so opted to wait for the Alabama.

'Cuz any race not at 10f in the interim will derail his designs on the "long term goal".

Talk about a double whammy. You got about 4 or 5 3yo filly stakes in the span of a little more than a month (ie Mother Goose, Delaware Oaks, CCA Oaks, Monmouth Oaks) so that the few top class horses (I wouldn't even put Acting Happy in that category at this point) can avoid each other. Then you have these supertrainers with their "long range plans" that involve staying in the barn and working "up to the race".

Useless.

Whoever suggested that the Eclipse Awards should be doled out based on a points system, is on the right track. In fact, there should also be some sort of $1 million bonus for each division at the end of the year. In fact, make the bonuses equivalent to the purses for each respective BC race.

Then every weekend might have a "World Thoroughbred Championship" race.

This is a great idea.

Gotta love the fact that the Barbaro drew 8 horses with a $100k purse going 1 1/16 miles and on the same day, the Long Branch at Monmouth has a field of 6 for $175k at the same distance...both restricted to 3YO.

What is even better? A whopping 11 horses have been entered between the two races, 3 of the Long Branchers are entered in the Barbaro.

At what point will some of these tracks get together, cut these stakes schedules, and develop some meaningful approach to share the love?

it's an interesting problem, race tracks and their scheduling. they are all supposed to be in this together, yet at the same time, they are competitors. however, the overall strengthening of the sport would help the tracks-but they still insist on poaching each other. they need to get together more, and try to come up with logical ways to handle themselves, and each other.
hell, they're like the irish! they have no one to fight, so they fight each other...and then wonder why the outcome isn't helpful to their long-term survival.

The VA Derby only has 5 so far for next weekend, the purse as you know is $600K. The Secretariat, at Arlington, is the same day, albeit for a much smaller purse, but both will be "sharing" the same horse pool.

This was the big beef I had with the drama in Florida. The 'every track is an island' philosophy, out to eat or be eaten in some cases, willfully self-involved in others. If they actually cared about the sport, they would be trying to support one another, but their priorities involve focusing inward. That kinda of behavior actually hurts them in the long run, but do they see it? Nope. Could handle race scheduling better so that the horse pool is used more efficiently, but they won't.
