Default cal judge rules on gay mil. ban

unconstitutional! it's about time!!

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/s...ryId=129763013

A federal judge in Southern California on Thursday declared the U.S. military's ban on openly gay service members unconstitutional because it violates the First Amendment rights of gay and lesbians.

U.S. District Judge Virginia Phillips granted a request for an injunction halting the government's "don't ask, don't tell" policy for gays in the military.

Phillips said the policy doesn't help military readiness and instead has a "direct and deleterious effect" on the armed services.

The lawsuit was the biggest legal test of the law in recent years and came amid promises by President Obama that he will work to repeal the policy.

Nice!

The sooner people realize that being gay is only one small part of the whole human being, the better off we'll all be... same as being left handed, Baptist, opera lover, etc. You don't have to agree with it (especially opera lovers - yuck!) but if you want to be a member of society, you need to learn to deal with it.

If you don't like homosexuality, then don't be a homosexual. How is that not easy for people to understand?

Hopefully they don't start voting on opera lovers' rights too, soon, or I'm doubly screwed.

Ok, only half-kidding, because I don't love opera, but pop/rock-opera like Sarah Brightman isn't all that far away.

Don't be so melodramatic, you are loved (or at least tolerated)... At least you live in a country where stoning isn't the norm... That's got to hurt a lot!

i always laugh when someone says 'military people don't want to be in a barracks with gays', or on a ship, in a foxhole, etc...guess what? they've been in barracks, etc with gays all along. i don't understand how this country can consider it one with the most liberties, and the govt itself engages in discrimination.

Other than the occasional accidental crossing of swords I see nothing wrong with it.
