Going to be tough for any filly to beat that monster this summer.

Congrats to Jimmy Toner. On to The New York or perhaps the American Oaks? |

Toner is conservative so it won't happen but I'd love to see her try males in a race like the Va Derby.

I second that. What boys would she have to be afraid of? Banned?

Exactly. If they don't want to go west then there's really not a race for her in NY until the Lake George. Monmouth has a Grade III in late June but that filly doesn't need to be running in G3 races. Its nice to see good, veteran trainers like Bond, Hushion, and Toner have 3 strong performances today.

Two Stakes at Saratoga, Garden City, and Queen Elizabeth.

With the decline of the American Oaks, instead of putting $500K into a turf race for older males a week after the Manhattan and only a few weeks before the UN, it probably would have made more sense for Colonial to move up the Virginia Oaks to mid-June and bump the purse to $500K. Probably would have drawn a nice field.

Big race from Tizway today.... Met Mile never fails to deliver.
Rodman really blew-up the exotics.... big payoffs despite a 3-1 winner who was well noted in a variety of spaces as the horse to bet. |

Watching Winter Memories today reminds me of Wonder Again, and when the filly/mare turf division seemed to be stacked year in and year out. Good for Toner to have another top notch turf distaffer. She was really impressive today. Two big efforts from the stakes winner this afternoon.

I really screwed that up. . . was a big fan of Rodman's a few years ago. Just didn't love his comebacker considering the slow pace.

Memories Of Silver
I remember Memories Of Silver rather well. I was at Saratoga for her first two stakes wins in the Lake George, which I think was a 50k stake at the time, and the Nijana. She was undefeated at the Spa.

Not to salt the wounds, but when a 3-1 favorite wins, and 2 of the 3 spots underneath are single digit horses, the Superfecta rarely balloons to $15k on a circuit like NY. It paid a lot like a Breeders' Cup race.

He ran Memories of Silver later in her 3-year-old year I believe in the BC Mile. She ran okay too. Not that Winter Memories needs to do that too though... but it's interesting.

The Nijana was changed to the Lake Placid.

Yeah... I had to look up the year, but in 1998 it flipped to the Lake Placid... Tenski won for The Mig that year.

I saw Nijana win the Schylerville in 1975.
