![]() Obviously you're talking about two different methods of timing being used.
With the offical timer, you have something that is tripped by a beam when a nose of a horse passes a set position. With Trakus -- you have a device about the size of a credit card inserted into the saddle cloth timing races by sending signals to antennas. In the first two days of GP -- there have been 7 turf races at 8f carded at Gulfstream: 8f T: Trakus time was 0.16 slower than offical time Trakus time was 0.15 slower than offical time Trakus time was 0.15 slower than offical time Trakus time was 0.17 slower than offical time Trakus time was 0.14 slower than offical time Trakus time was 0.12 slower than offical time Trakus time was 0.15 slower than offical time So far - there have been two races run at 7 furlongs on dirt: 7f D: Trakus time was 0.16 faster than offical time Trakus time was 0.16 faster than offical time Here are what the two 7f races look when broken down by fractions: GP Timer: 23.06 - 22.76 - 24.46 - 12:73 = 1:23.01 Trakus T: 22.89 - 22.79 - 24.42 - 12.75 = 1:22.85 GP Timer: 22.29 - 22.43 - 24.01 - 12:84 = 1:21.57 Trakus T: 22.13 - 22.45 - 23.99 - 12:84 = 1:21.41 So far there have been two races at 5.5 furlongs. 5.5f D: Trakus time was 0.01 faster than offical timer Trakus time was 0.01 slower than offical timer There have been three races at 6f: 6f D: Trakus time was 0.20 faster than offical time Trakus time was 0.13 faster than offical time Trakus time was 0.25 faster than offical time 3 races at the new 8.5 furlong distance: 8.5f D: Trakus time was 0.45 faster than offical time Trakus time was 0.78 faster than offical time Trakus time was 0.67 faster than offical time And finally two at 8 furlongs on dirt... in one of them the offical timer did not work and mysterious fractions were posted in the result chart. 8f D: Trackus 0.20 slower Trackus 0.88 slower (The offical Timer did not work during the running of this race) |

Now -- what I'm looking for here -- is how the next 10 or 15 races at 8 furlongs on dirt go. If they all go right around 0.20 slower than the offical timer ... I will know the hand timed race is 0.66 seconds too fast. I will also know the correct fractional times -- give or take a few hundreths. Using a trainer search for a Joe Woodard horse in Formulator -- I was able to find the PP's for the horse who won the race where the offical timer didn't work properly yesterday: ![]() There is already a Beyer of 95 posted -- and it should be about 7 or 8 points lower if the Trakus spread of +0.20 holds true in all the other races at the same distance. |

![]() We will see. The only time that looks questionable (and VERY questionable at that) so far this meet at Gulfstream is the one 8-furlong dirt race.
Trakus times have an overall margin of error of about 0.04 seconds ... and that margin is increased ever so slightly more because of the tracking device being in the saddle towells instead of on the tip of the horses nose. As you know -- all horses aren't the same length to start with -- and some times the saddle towell is more forward on a horse like in this picture: ![]() Other times it's back on the horse a little bit more. The huge advantage with Trakus is that EVERY single horse in the race is timed... not just a set position. Gulfstream will never have a timing problem again because this will obviously identify it like it did in the 8-furlong dirt race where the timer malfunctioned on the TV feed during the running of the race. |

![]() Good Stuff CL I have been following Trakus info like this for a couple of years (as we race mostly at Woodbine).
We were lucky enough to win a race Sunday at GP Going 8.5 T (6th Race) Trakus had us .61 Slower than official time. |

![]() It looks to me like the 95 already accounts for the timing error.

![]() Race 8 1-07-12
GP Timer: 20.0 - 44.2 - 1:07.9 - 1:32.4 = 1:45.2 Trakus T: 24.0 - 47.5 - 1:11.2 - 1:36.1 = 1:48.8 |
