Default Censorship 1960s style

The thread in Esoteric on the Smothers Brothers (whom I love) made me think of this clip, which was supposed to air as part of one of their 3rd season episodes. CBS said no f*cking way, and made them take it out. It's Harry Belafonte, singing "Stop the Carnival" and a medley of some of his famous songs "Mama Look a Boo Boo," "Matilda"- why yes, I also love Harry Belafonte, how can you tell? - to the backdrop of the 1968 Democratic National Convention.

On the DVD, the episode is presented as it was meant to be, but as an extra, they include the bit the Smothers Brothers had to do to fill in the time this segment was supposed to have occupied. It's clear in the segment that Tommy Smothers is PISSED.

Though they were one of CBS's top 10 shows, they got cancelled later that season for a "blasphemous" sermon about Easter.
