http://news.msn.com/us/fools-errand-...op-on-cruz-lee

the article asks if it was a fools errand or a heroic stand.
well, imo, cruz and lee are fools-so there's no way i'd say it was a heroic stand. it's a defeat, one which may have after-effects for some time to come. they are custer times two.

So everything is going to be OK so long as we keep spending a lot more money than we take in? Is that what the "adults" of the Senate chamber think?

Brilliant.

Funny how yesterday the media decided the Dow rising 300 points was do to the settlement (actually the presumption of a deal) yet this morning with the deal being official and the Dow down over a 100, all is mum.

Key and Peele's piece after Obama won reelection seems very apropos today. Just substitute "Ted Cruz" for "Mitt Romney."

Nothing funny at all; the old adage of "buy on the rumor, sell on the news" applies. Also, pay no attention to the fact that the Dow has more than doubled since the bottom of 3/09. Maybe we should call it the "Tea Party Rally."

Guess that's why Jack Lew has a government job and not at Goldman. He would have lost his shirt.

they absolutely need to come up with a viable budget.

however, debt ceiling time isn't the time to be trying to work on that. when's the last time congress actually passed a budget?

and tell me, when reagans admin saw 18 debt ceiling raises, were you saying things like this then?

Standard & Poor's estimated the shutdown has taken $24 billion out of the economy, and the Fitch credit rating agency warned Tuesday that it was reviewing its AAA rating on U.S. government debt for a possible downgrade.

Obama and his Democratic allies on Capitol Hill were the decisive winners in the fight, which was sparked by tea party Republicans like Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, who prevailed upon skeptical GOP leaders to use a normally routine short-term funding bill to "defund" the 2010 health care law known as Obamacare.

"We fought the good fight. We just didn't win," House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, conceded in a radio interview. He was given positive reviews from Republicans for his handling of the crisis, though it again exposed the tenuous grasp he holds over the fractious House GOP conference.

Nice to see that furloughed workers will get back pay for the time off. If they didnt maybe they would be pissed off enough to vote them all out. Guess we didnt save much money at all.

the people responsible for this mess should have been the first on the 'do not pay' list.
term limits
has to be a budget
just two of the rules that should be instituted, immediately, for congress.

Sounds like a plan..

Psychology 101 -

If you start with a cage containing five monkeys and inside the cage, hang a banana on a string from the top and then you place a set of stairs under the banana, before long a monkey will go to the stairs and climb toward the banana.

As soon as he touches the stairs, you spray all the other monkeys with cold water.

After a while another monkey makes an attempt with same result... all the other monkeys are sprayed with cold water. Pretty soon when another monkey tries to climb the stairs, the other monkeys will try to prevent it.

Now, put the cold water away.Remove one monkey from the cage and replace it with a new one. The new monkey sees the banana and attempts to climb the stairs. To his shock, all of the other monkeys beat the crap out of him. After another attempt and attack, he knows that if he tries to climb the stairs he will be assaulted.

Next, remove another of the original five monkeys, replacing it with a new one.

The newcomer goes to the stairs and is attacked. The previous newcomer takes part in the punishment...... with enthusiasm, because he is now part of the "team".

Then, replace a third original monkey with a new one, followed by the fourth, then the fifth. Every time the newest monkey takes to the stairs, he is attacked.

Now, the monkeys that are beating him up have no idea why they were not permitted to climb the stairs. Neither do they know why they are participating in the beating of the newest monkey.

Finally, having replaced all of the original monkeys, none of the remaining monkeys will have ever been sprayed with cold water. Nevertheless, not one of the monkeys will try to climb the stairway for the banana.

Why, you ask? Because in their minds...that is the way it has always been!

This, my friends, is how Congress operates... and this is why, from time to time:

ALL of the monkeys need to be REPLACED AT THE SAME TIME.

My takeaway: R's and the Tea Party get an F for a failed strategy that was doomed from the start. Obama and the D's get an F for rolling out what was supposed to be his legacy program with more bugs in it than the Edsel.

Wonder how long it's going to be before somebody starts accusing the anti-Obamacare forces of hacking the websites. Surprised we haven't heard that yet.

have to say the website issues do not surprise me at all. knowing what agencies had to be tied into it, it was doomed from the start.
hell the va and dod can't communicate, and we expect a health exchange that has to be tied in to the irs, ins, health co's, etc, wili work?

you would have heard a lot more about the problems with the rollout had the air not been sucked out of the room by the spectacle of republicans lighting themselves on fire.

there has to a grade below "f" for a political strategy that everyone outside of texas could see had no possible result that wasn't either disasterous for your party or the country as a whole and as an added bonus provided cover for the problems rolling out the law you opposed.

with opponents like this, who needs friends?
