Oh my God ed are you kidding me?????

I read your post and i thought well alright he probably had a nice enough run but you didn't want to post that Jimmy was 3rd or something.

How cool was that???

Brilliant!

SO happy to see him back and winning and wow Red Ruler and Banchee... just breathtaking and so close for both. (Great runs by the winners but hey... sentiment).

Those were fantastic... all had great finishes and yes your track looks great.

Thank me for my support?

No thank you for showing me a part of the world I wouldn't have considered.

I thought HK was last in the respect department but man I can't even find results for NZ most of the time.

This needs to change.

You all have some great horses and yes I mean great as in great and not the overused kind.

Thanks for the replays!!!!! This made my day and it's still morning.

Haha, I didn't want to ruin the surprise.

Jimmy was so amazing. He got bored once he got to the lead, and he started looking around at the crowd on both sides of the track. He would have won by 5 if he'd kept concentrating and had kept going in a straight line!

Poor Red Ruler - second in four G1s now, and still looking for that first G1 win. I hope he gets it some day!

So good to see Banchee back at her best!

And Dashing Donna - two G1 placings, but no stakes wins until yesterday. She deserved that.

That's a good comparison! Yesterday's field wasn't quite the Arc, but Red Ruler does have that same 'so close, but not quite' problem.

Some news about yesterday's winners...

Jimmy Choux is still targetting the Derby in March. I hope he does well in that, but I really think he'll struggle with the distance. Hope I'm wrong.

Smoulder will be running in the Royal Stakes on Saturday. Not sure yet about Banchee.

Dashing Donna will run in the G1 Railway on Saturday.

Booming is aiming for the 2011 Melbourne Cup, so will have a light summer/autumn before starting his Cup campaign next spring.

Is it wrong that I usually miss New Year's celebrations with my friends (lots of them go out of town) because I don't want to miss the January 1 races? There are 7 stakes races on that day! They just don't seem to understand.

I know exactly how you feel, believe me... and if we're the crazy ones well hey at least we're happy in our insanity.

I'd opt for the 7 stakes races too.

Yeah it would (be great if he won. I watched a replay of his... very nice boy).

Okay my silly list of who I'm rooting for... (besides Arakti)...

Good luck to Time Keeper in the Rich Hill...

... to Mufasa...

... and to Red Ruler, who I adore. (Oh please oh please oh please ).

If I were playing I'd use...
Miss Upstart
Lady Kipling
Agamemnon and Italian Princess
Six O'Clock News and A Chance to Dream
... along with my sentimental guys of course.

Great fields!

Come home safe everyone and best of luck to you, ed!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to you as well!

And wow, what a great first day of 2011.

Replays (when you have time!)...

Eclipse: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJIfNrXPz08
Thrilling finish to this race! Loved it. And the jockey of the winner has a very big opinion of her. She has a big future.

Dunstan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2rdgJxyYE0
A deserved big win for a consistent, underrated mare.

Championship:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oV_O_xMVlqA
Wow! He has no idea what he's doing, but he's so talented. I'm gonna watch this boy closely.

Royal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSg7OqUxUjw
She's amazing.

Rich Hill: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8z2f9pUmgk4
Was hoping Salvatore would hang on. Impressive performance by the winner, though!

Railway: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaCo0Z3TjU8
Really?! 86-1! But she deserved it - great, great performance.

City of Auckland Cup: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4N8w0Z_dhHA

A deserved big win for a consistent, underrated mare.

Wow! He has no idea what he's doing, but he's so talented. I'm gonna watch this boy closely.
I'm halfway through watching...

Loved all so far of course. Very nice run by the 3rd place finisher in the first race as well and I just blanked out on the name.

Oh my God that 3rd race... all that bumping around I was holding my breath but yes very very nice and the other one too.

4th race - "a lot of action prior to the race" re the 2 scratchings... what did i miss?

The Railway - wow!

Was that Atapi 2nd? (wreiting as I'm watching so sorry it's disjointed).

OH man Red Ruler. Break my heart. Did you see how hard he tried?

Beautiful races, all of them.

I love Bruce Almighty - so fun to watch him! - and if that was Atapi in the prior one (the #6?) I just love (don't laugh) well... I do like that one although I couldn't tell if he was 2nd or 3rd.

Thank for the replays and lucky for me I don't / can't play NZ cause I would suck but I'm sure you did well and wow... what a fantastic day of races!

The third horse in the Eclipse was Savabill. Yeah, it was a great run.

Those scratchings happened because one of the horses started lashing out in her gate. She was kicking and rearing. She caused slight injuries to both herself and the horse in the neighbouring gate. Just a little bit of skin off their legs, so nothing serious, but bad enough to take them out of the race. It's scary when that happens - horses freaking out when they're standing in such an enclosed space, right in front of a big crowd. It's lucky it wasn't worse.

It was Atapi who came 2nd in the Railway! Haha, he's 9, but he can still break 1:10. What a fast old man.

It was another great performance by Red Ruler. He was a bit unlucky in both of his races this week - could have won them both if there had been more speed in the race. He hates these slowly run tactical races.

Thanks for all the info and he's 9, really? Where has he been all my life?

I just watched the Hidden Asset race again.

Has he won before?

I'd love to know a little more about him.

He was 3rd in his debut (would have won that if he'd run straight), then he easily won a maiden race in early December. The Championship Stakes was his 3rd start, 2nd win.

He's by High Chaparral, like about half of the good horses in NZ and Australia are at the moment!

His part-owner has been racing horses for 25 years, and this was his first stakes win.

Hidden Asset is now 3rd favourite in the Derby at 7-1. He's Remarkable and Lion Tamer are still ahead of him.

He's Remarkable ran really well in his race as well. It was way too short for him. He was more than 10 lengths behind the leaders at the turn, and he finished 5th, 4.1 lengths behind the winner.

So even though he didn't win, he was very impressive. In fact, his Derby odds went down from 4-1 to 3-1 after the race.

Thanks for that and his first stakes win? Really???

That's awesome.

I like Lion Tamer a LOT but I didn't think he was still up there as one of the favorites. I have no idea why though! I mean I didn't think he was up to that level but hooray!

Who else is looking really good right now?

Sometimes there are so many of them that I start blanking out on names.

Actually, now he isn't: http://www.smh.com.au/sport/horserac...102-19d1i.html

At least it's only a minor injury, and he'll be back later in the season.

King's Rose is still considered a big Derby chance, but her trainer said she's more likely to go for the Oaks. I don't think any filly in NZ can beat her in that, so that's a safe target.

Jimmy Choux is back in the picture after his awesome win last week. I'm still not convinced he'll get the Derby distance, but he's obviously got the ability.

And there are a few impressive maiden winners around who haven't stepped up to stakes class yet.

It's an exciting year!
