Sad news that hot Ontario sire Niigon had to be put down today, apparently due to a broken femur. https://twitter.com/DRFGierkink edit - http://www.woodbineentertainment.com...d-1438c6b0c365 Queen’s Plate winner, Niigon, passes TORONTO, October 14 – Niigon, winner of the 2004 Queen’s Plate and one of Canada’s leading sires, has died at the age of 11. “He suffered a broken Femur in his stall and we were unable to save him,” said Rob Landry, General Manager for Chiefswood Stable, who raced the dark bay earner of $1.13 million and stood him at Colebrook Farms. The son of Unbridled, who finished third in the 2004 edition of Jim Dandy Stakes, has sired 2012 stakes winners It’s Gail and Seen It All Before and 2011 stakes winners Niigon’s Touch, Reconnect and Ojibway Signal among his progeny. 7YO Emily Allstar broke down on the track at Parx. 43-10-7-8, $523,390. This year she was 12-3-2-2. In 2010, she took 3rd in the Nellie Morse Stakes and won the Jersey Girl Handicap. She was 3rd in the Jersey Girl in 2011.
