I would guess so...but since Bob Roberts is not writing anymore we have no expert analysis.
Oh he was a good guy all right, but I thought a little challenged in the nuances of horseys. If you're here ,Bob, I did say you were a good guy. I mean everyone can't be a TypoJay. |

Morty,
Did you follow Bob when he would have the mythical bankroll in the PD? His expertise was in thoroughbreds, AND TROTTERS He was what I call a 5 tool handicapper

Didn't he always go through that 1 large fairly quickly? He would usually only bet like maybe 10 to 20 dollars each card. Again..he was a reall good guy. I think it was the buggies what got to him. |

Im pretty sure everything got him. Ever week he had a new excuse why he was losing, but every week he lost. When Gulfstream would run he would ride the chalk till he went bust.

He was definitely big on the favorites. Remember ( and maybe it's still there) the cafe on Warrensville just north of Emery on the corner there? A lot of track people hung out there. A savory lot. |

This is so true.
It is a tough place to be around at night. My Father said there was another race track right next to Thistledown...where Randall Mall is now. In fact I think it was Randall Park...maybe a trotter place. He also said there was Crandall Park in Geauga Lake. He told me GL was really wide open back in those days...anything you wanted I guess....and Ascott was in Akron. So there were 5 mixes of thoroughs and trotters within about no more than 30 minutes of each other and now there are 2. |

All true, your dad is correct. Thistle used to have a turf course too until they installed "winterized" surface in place of the grass. That worked out well

Oh yes.
His brothers were jockeys of very little note. One lived in Louisville right next to the track....made buzzers in his basement. I always bring this up and can imagine other posters who know this are groaning right about now. |
