I expect our differing opinions about these races probably relate to our different reasons for handicapping races in the first place. I enjoy feeling like "a detective hunting around for clues" because I am a small-time/part-time player who treats the game as a hobby. If I lose a lot of the time, it isn't a big deal because I rarely make large wagers. For me it is just a thing I dabble in for fun (with the possible exception of the Arlington meet, which I take rather seriously).
For someone like you that depends on picking winners for a living, I imagine the kind of speculation involved in betting a race full of firsters is understandably far less appealing.
