Hurricane Ike

IH 37 is loaded down with people from South Central Texas
coast heading to San Antonio. We will have to open the gym up
again. Fleeing like ants.

It is really kinda sad. There are a lot of poor people
that dont live on the water, but still have to evacuate.
They really dont have the bucks to just pick up and leave.

One good thing people dont give the Churches credit for.
They will send volunteers and get these folks gas money
to get back. And they dont have to claim they accept Jesus
Christ as their savior to get help.

Hopefully they have something to get back to.

Cowgirl... your friends in Houston could get ripped up
if this moves further north. Its to the south of you this
time around most likely. So you might also get some
bad stuff.

If it goes more west the people that are fleeing from
the south to San Antonio will retreat right into the
storm that pounds us.
Messed up stuff.
Laredo might have been safer but they cant hold the influx.

I hope people are overreacting. The gas stations and
grocery stores are getting mauled.

Looks like it might be going more North now.
Who knows.
Maybe they will have time to retreat back.

wonderful. we still have water everywhere from gustav, as well as trees all over still-and plenty more that are all but fallen-this will finish them off. and a day or so after gustav we had a huge day long deluge.
i don't think they even have all the culverts repaired. and wildlife is all over right now, turkeys are all pushed out of the river bottoms and have been by the highway morning, noon and night. i don't want to hit another one of those....and deer and bear being seen more often on highways as well.


edit~ and here i chose ike from south park with the slogan from DDE running for prez due to the current campaigning....guess i ought to change it.

no one wants to be accused of being uncaring, or unprepared. really for the best if you do go, so no one else has to risk life and limb to rescue you. better safe than sorry and all that.

Was pretty bad here...lots of tree damage, some roofs, power lines down everywhere, not as bad as Katrina but apparently worse as Entergy was very surprised at the path Gustav took and took out all the transmission lines.....gotta love the the forethought of the people who run the main thing we need....POWER...they became the FEMA of Katrina...ask them a question and they don't have an answer....pathetic!!!



OH and FEMA sucks again..since NOLA didn't flood they left and landfall in Houma can't get the FEMA supplies promised. I think Jindals gonna hit someone soon.

What is starting to worry me is that Hurricane Rita did the same thing here 3 yrs ago. About the same time of year too. They kept saying it was going into Victoria/Galveston and then to wake up the day the storm was to hit to hear "It's moved farther to the east and is going to hit Beaumont".

It is looking like Ike just might do the same damn thing...I usually go to Houston, but they will be evacuated by this time tomorrow I imagine.
This really is going to be a monster. Best of luck to anyone that is in this ones path come Saturday a.m.

There are plenty of shelters here.
If the wind gets really bad, we go to the school.

I hear ya.. I am sick up this years "Hurricane Rollercoaster" Ride. Last night I went to bed with not a worry about Ike.. Then by this morning that little "ut oh" voice popped up again..Now my stomach is in knots with worry of what I will see on the computers forcast in the a.m..

It is what is is right? and we either deal with it in the ways we know how or stay and risk everything... We got lucky here last week with Gustav missing us.. not so sure we can dodge the bullet twice.

As a Houstonian, this is certainly a very signifcant event. The city has been spared of any bad hurricane activity for 25 years with a bad tropical storm here and there in the interim. A landfall at or around Freeport, which is forecast right now, could have a catastrophic effect on as many as 600,000 people.

After the fiasco that was Hurricane Rita preparation, the city is being very careful about what they tell residents to do. They've just now extended the mandatory evacuations inland from Galveston bay.

For those of you that live east of Houston, I hate to say it, but this is eerily similar to the days leading up to Hurricane Rita as the forecasts started gradually shifting east. Of course, I hope somehow we can all be safe, but I don't think that's in the cards.
