I don't know. I didn't see anything to give me hope for the future with him. It looked like he was walking home. I kept waiting for someone else to come in the picture but nobody did. It was a nice win against what he faced today but I don't see stakes wins in his future. He got away with 49 and change, 1:14 and change. The race was handed to him.

Those are probably very solid fractions considering the overall slowness of the turf course.

He was a little too agressive with the blinkers first time but should learn to relax better.

I think you are reading too much into the time... it's literally the first turf race they've run all meet. Impossible to know what "good" or "bad" times are at this point.

exactly.

114 isn't necessarily slow for some of the times they have run last few delaware meets.

have to see a few more turf races there.

remember he seemed to go wide 1st turn with the fairly heavy short run-up bias as well. (hard to get a great view on xpressbet)

can't just say 24 48 112 and assume that fits for today's turf course

They had been rained off the turf yesterday. Perhaps KG thought that the final time of 1:46 and change was for 9 furlongs - the race was 8.5 furlongs ... thus 49 is a very solid pace in relation to that final time.

Actually it was 10 but hey, I'm sure they'll take it. http://cs.bloodhorse.com/blogs/nican...g-fashion.aspx The Bloodhorse blog has a video of the race.

Admittedly, I don't know much about anything in regards to what's normal for Delaware so I shouldn't have made that comment. I still didn't think he was looking like he had much coming down the lane. Sure, he wasn't asked for anything at all and there was no reason to be giving much but it just looked like a horse that didn't have much left and luckily didn't have anything behind him. Who knows? This might turn out to be the first time I've ever been wrong about a horse.

True, but overall the blinkers seemed to help him quite a bit. Lezcano said he was extremely distracted in the gate and at the start of the race last time, and he certainly appeared focused today.
I thought it was a good performance. The speed of the race will obviously be easier to determine after the 8f turf race later on the card, but I doubt his race comes back a whole lot slower than that one. There is no reason to think he couldn't be a decent stakes horse on the lawn, and actually the addition of blinkers could make him a stakes horse on the dirt as well.
All things considered, it looks like he's fairly good.

with the way hes bred to love the distance, I am surprised nobody has said the "B" word...
Hey - last year it was won wire-to-wire.

Seriously he is bred to get a mile and a half, and if they keep stretching him out, it would be cool to see him run with the "real" turf horses. You don't see much quality speed in the 11 and 12 furlong classic turf races. He could dictate tactics in some of those races if he keeps improving.
Who knows... he's still probably going to be a very tempting to bet-against in his allowance or stakes debut.

Nicanor isnt a need the lead type and would of ran just as fast if horses were ahead of him, the horses were just so damn awful that no one was even fast enough to lead them in 1:14 on the grass

Glitterman's Cartel was off the board at CD about 10 minutes after Nicanor's win.
