Don't count your chickens. Stronach did a 180 on Oak Tree and I wouldn't put it past him to do it on this, if it doesn't help him to out-maneuver the state board.

of course he changed his mind. they can't run oak tree there and have enough time to redo the track before the winter meet begins. oak tree can run elsewhere. del mar said they were interested, i doubt that's changed.

They are re-doing the track after Oak Tree.

CHRB denied Oak Tree a license to run at SA for the Fall. It looks like Oak Tree will be at Hollywood.

I am just glad a major track is switching from plastic dirt to the real stuff again. It's been over 3 years since I really paid attention to the Santa Anita meet outside of the big race days.

Now if Arlington and Keeneland get rid of that shyt, racing would be heading back in the right direction.

Does this mean Steve Woods is coming back and will the dirt be fast on the back side and quicksand coming home?

I dont think they will let Woods anywhere near the track. The reason that alot of the time that the backside was so fast and the front side was so slow is because the backside gets all the sun all day long and the grandstand blocks out the stretch by about mid afternoon.

Everyone will be paying attention and they better hope the surface they put in doesnt have horses being hauled off in the meat wagon every other day.

The sealed track, the backside drying out before the frontside and the 6 horse fields.

then it shouldn't be any different than now...people are complaining about this surface, and we all know about the problems with field size. how many days did hollywood cancel again, due to lack of entries? santa anita doesn't want another batch of days lost because of drainage.
i'm glad they've decided to do this. as for dirt equalling injuries/deaths-saratoga has dirt, so does tampa, oaklawn, etc. they have good tracks, so there's no reason to think a change will automatically mean problems.

I would love to see just one article from the past ( before synthetic) saying how great the tracks were here in SoCali. As I recall even Stronach wouldnt race his super horse at Santa Anita because of the track and so now all of a sudden " new" dirt is going to be way better.
Does anybody remember why it is the tracks here went to synthetics in the first place? Its because horses were dying at an alarming rate and the horsemen were screaming for something to be done. So they did something and now they are screaming again because they cant find the winners circle and that horses are having injuries where they are laid up instead of breaking their legs off which is cheaper I guess in the long run, just put em down and get a new one.
No wonder racing is in the crapper on a whole, you just cant fix stupid.
