Circular Quay got an inflated Beyer last out and is a total play against. I like Great Hunter to win but if he continues his seconditis I like Passport or Street Sense long before CQ.

I am usually not one for bold predictions.....but based on his first three races, this colt is for real. As for the 1st post on the thread, I don't understand why you would refer to a G1 winner as "Pletcher's Thunder Gulch" as if he were a first time starter. Why does this horse get no respect. Did you people SEE his last race? |

but these are two year olds who change with the wind. maybe he moves on, maybe he doesn't. anyone who looks for races to beat the fave and try to find value would be insane not to try here.

To me betting against CQ after what he showed in his last race (not to mention his first two) is like flushing money down a toilet. He is - in my opinoin - clearly the best colt in this race. To me that doesn't make him a good bet-against. For some reason I just can't stay away from this board when there is a good Circular Quay debate going on. I'm singling CQ in the pick 4 (my only bet of the day at Keenland). |

that's the thing...if you don't feel you can beat the fave, you try to find someone playable underneath, or just sit back and watch cq waltz. not all faves are beatable...BUT if any horse would be a 'take a stand againt' as the fave today, i feel it's CQ. just never know with the babies...

I stand corrected.
Hard to know exactly why he didn't fire today. Maybe it was the Poly, maybe it was the 2 turns. I guess we just don't know yet. I rarely get super excited about a 2yo but I made an exception for this guy. He didn't totally bomb today....but he didn't blow by them like I thought he would. Like Scav, I still plan on playing him BC day. |

Anybody bother to read the chart?
"Circular Quay settled inside early, lost position concluding the backstretch, was asked for more entering the far turn when angled five wide, was bumped twice by the winner nearing the stretch and forced out on Passport, then continued off the inside and gamely earned the place." In other words, CQ had himself an eventful trip. Great Hunter got first run and was gone before CQ was able to regroup. Would he have won with a better trip? Don't know. Great Hunter is from a different circuit and that circuit may just have a slightly better bunch of 2yos this year. Not enough evidence to blame poly for his second. |
