$2 is probably overpaying there. . . I was very close to going to college there (Union) - too bad, me and pg could've been OTB buddies.

Casino Drive will not.
its almost by default ? who else is there ? also his last was not very impressive ? i can argue that he beat more quality in his last then big brown has beat at all, i think this crop is HORRIBLE, TERRIBLE AND DID I MENTION HORRIBLE.... there are only 3 that you can even call good right now, casino, brown and harlem, and i have a feeling harlem wont like canada.

While the crop of 3yos this year is down, the division you referenced here seems extremely deep and tough this year.

Throw in Prado riding Birdstone and you had the recipe for an upset. Just like when Prado beat War Emblem with Sarava. I am beginning to see a pattern here. We will see if Spark Candle can rattle Kent. Wouldn't be the first time. What will that make 3x Prado took down a potential triple crown. No coincidence there.
I agree that 12f was not Smarty's ideal distance. That would make it even more imperative for him to come into the race 100% to have his best shot. He didn't come into the race 100% after knocking himself out in the Preakness when he really didn't need to.

Here is a message I sent to Dunbar before the Preakness. I sent this to him the morning of the Preakness regarding Big Brown:

"Unless Big Brown regresses tremendously, he should win today. But I think the most important thing to watch for today is whether the horse is asked or not. Smarty Jones won the Preakness by about 10 lengths, but he was being asked and he was all out. It was a huge mistake on the part of Stuart Elliot. If Elliot would have taken a nice hold of the horse and cruised home by 4 lengths in hand, he would have probably won the Belmont. These horses are not machines. You don't want to squeeze the lemon dry. Desormeaux needs to leave something in the tank for the Belmont. Dutrow is pretty sharp. I think he is aware of this and will probably tell Kent to try to save something. If he is whipping and driving today, I will not like his chances in the Belmont."

What I find interesting is that this time a few years ago racing fans everywhere where excited that Smarty Jones had a shot at the Triple Crown. People all over were planning "Smarty Parties" for Belmont day. John Servis was thought to be the greatest, most humble guy on earth. Everybody took Stew at face value and just hoped that he would move beyond his personal demons. They were celebrating in Hot Springs and Philly as the motorcade headed to New York. Ironically today there are no Big Brown bashes, no Dutrow ditties and we are all trying to figure out how to beat this guy. A sharp contrast to what happened a few years back with Smarty.
I want to root for BB because I would like to see a Triple Crown winner. It's just hard because getting excited for Big Brown is like kissing your sister or light beer. If he wins the Belmont, and I hope he does, I really wonder what we'll say a few years from now as we lament about the great Big Brown's run through the Triple Crown in 2008. Will we say, what a great horse with such a character for a trainer and connections that should have their own HBO weekly show?
Denis of Cork to upset. That would solve everything.

Here is the replay.

Remember Bailey on Eddington...that subtle pressure just took enough out of him in the stretch for Birdstone to run on by.

This is just my opinion but had Bailey ridden SJ that day and not Stu Elliot. I don't think he would have panicked and Smarty Jones would be a TC winner today. He didn't need to inject him into the race so early, when he probably should have been sitting 3rd behind the speed.
Great call by Durkin...

Then again, "yourself" is a reflexive pronoun and should of course only be used when both the object and subject of the sentence are the same.
