He carried 114 lbs. This will be the last time for both. Next race will be interesting. |

This Ones For Phil was in good shape - until he ran a 21.72 second quarter
I bet TOFP and Theregoesjojo to win. SamePage and Quality Road and maybe even Taqarub were supposed to duel on a 21.72 1st quarter with Prado carefully keeping TOFP out of the pace duel, but the rest is history... Quality Road ran back to his debut race. He's a nice horse, he's better than War Pass was at this time last year, and Quality Road can actually press as well as lead. Lets be honest - this was a good field, but it's not really what its hyped up to be as "One of the Best Derby Preps in ages...". Most of these horses aren't classic distance horses. It was a nice field of sprinters and milers coming together with a lot of big figures. Maybe if you get some of the sprinters out of the way it could help a horse like Quality Road even more in the Florida Derby he gets to relax up front. They ran all ran pretty well to form - the race tactics and pace scenario just didn't materialize the way you would expect. |

Solid race from Quality Road though.

I think he's without question the fastest horse Bill Mott ever trained. Back before they reconfigured Gulfstream - it was a very speed friendly track. Elusive Quality ran only two times there in his life - and posted Beyers of 122 and 123 in those two races. As fast as he was, he amazingly never won a stake race on dirt. And from the fastest sprinter Mott ever trained .... to probably the worst horse Mott has trained in the last 20 years ... I give you Kobla ... the mother of Quality Road. Pretty impressive two race career. |

I only got one look at it, but didn't Theregoesjojo completely wipe out the #1 at the break? Not that I'm complaining because I actually had him.

Does anyone make anything of the fact that Quality Road isn't a Triple Crown nominee?
I mean it's only $600 to nominate. And now it will cost $6,000. Odd. |

And Lasix either helps a horse or it doesn't. It's not something that helps the first time, then stops having any effect. |

That must have really dampened the connection's enthusiasm.

after it is used. And if you are implying lasix will keep helping improve a horse past the 1st or 2nd that is not true. The real question is does the horse move forward physically (not medically because the horse will stay on lasix) off a very good performance in which the horse had some advantages. Both horses had some weight advantages. |

I'm impressed with Quality Road. Theregoesjojo had the race set up for him though, so it wasn't as impressive.

Strawberry Road stood for only 10k?
That has to be the biggest stallion bargain in my lifetime. Well, besides IC starting out at 10k, but SR was already a well established stallion. |
