For breeders and farms, this sale is a bloodbath. Obviously some breeders havent adjusted their prices enough as seen by the high number of buybacks. These numbers will be frighteningly low as compared to years past.
If a person ever wanted to get involved with TB ownership there will never be a better time. AP Indy fillies out of stakes winning dams bringing less than 100k? Wow.

On a positive note Scavs/GBBob will be swinging into action tomorrow around 11am. Philski is the wingman.

Well there will be less incentive to retire colts but then again Vinery just gave a lot of money for 1/2 of a pretty medicore prospect in POTN. There wont be as much money at the top of the market, the $40 million types but the lower end will still pay more than a horse will earn on the track. In theory this market should continue to collapse for at least another year or two. The bloodstock market in November will be much worse.

It has definitely changed, Keeneland still supplying bottled water but last year Mill Ridge had a rockin area. Some of the smaller consigners had Jolly Ranchers today.

I WISH it was actually me being able to get a thoroughbred, with the bonus depreciation and new depreciation method for yearlings(4 year; 25% / 37.5%/25% /12.5%), you can recoup more then half of purchase price (25% then 50% on that final 75%) in a tax deduction so it would be a great idea if you did have the cash

this sale is an absolute bloodbath. Not a single seven figure purchase and lots of good flesh going through for much much much lower prices than expected. The half to Smarty Jones sold for $50k. FIFTY GRAND!!! That would have sold for $400k just a few years ago even if he was a total piece of sh1t (which he was, to be brutally honest.) Full to Malibu Mint for $130k an RNA (was an absolute head case though). A beatiful NYB half to Clock Stopper by Henny Hughes RNA for $30k (must have vetted poorly because she walked fine). Storm Cat half to AFLEET ALEX(!!) for $300k. Storm Cat out of Serena's Song for $450k. Average down from last year from $363k to $233k and down from 2007's $394k and 2006's $539k. Wow.

This is partially true but people also need to consider that it takes alot of money from September XX to September 1st the following year or even longer to get them ready to run

The half to Afleet Alex was the real eye-opener for me.
Being a Filly, I thought she would be worth that if she never had a chance to make the track.

I saw alot of big names there today (Californians in strong) - must be sitting on their wallets, waiting for later books. But the repository was strangely dead and empty today, too, especially not alot of Florida vets up here (although people may not be vetting, I saw a couple with "not clean" rads get well sold today)
