I would say that arguing against the US in the theoretical greatest country in the world poll would be pretty poor bet.

Denmark? LOL

yeah if you are lily white and dont get sea sick.

plus the US already has a Denmark. We call it Connecticut and Rhode island.

^^ sounds like a John Lennon song.

If the world and religion and countries and continents were as simple as university's.. than sure it sounds wonderful.

But then a guy name Adolf Hitler buys Arizona State University, and Southern Cal.. and he thinks he's so great that he's going to take over the U of A & UCLA without paying. should we just let Hitler take over our college? What if I dont want to be taught by ASU? What if I couldnt stand their filthy, ugly school colors? We just let ASU take over?

I wish as much as you do that 100% of this world would be living in peace and happiness. its just so impossible that wishing for it doesnt solve anything.

If he agreed to just take over UCLA I could probably work out a deal with them. Hell they would be like the other Evil Empire, The New York Yankees!

LOL

I was actually going to use Steinbrenner.. but figured maybe it was too soon.

Besides, as much as I hate the Yankees, Steinbrenner was a very generous & compassionate man who helped out more cities and people than we'll ever realize.

But still... Fucl< the Yankees and Fucl< A-rod.

I am pretty sure Hitler has been running USC for awhile now. They are no threat to me, however, because they would have to fly over the Rockies to get to the rest of us and from what I hear, that's close to impossible.

College education in Connecticut and Rhode Island is free? I didn't know that. I also didn't know Forbes ranked Connecticut and Rhode Island as having the best business environments in the world.

most def.. by the time he made it over the Rockies he'd be too tired to care about taking over Mizzou.

Maybe we could move the Rockies to be in between us and the Paki / Afghan border.

Best National Security Move, evah.

So free college and a good business environment are the standards? You should be a Republican.

We've survived alot of mediocrities in high office over the past few hundred years - yet we grew to the greatest.

For food I think the U.S. would be hard to top, because of the depth of the variety....at least in urban areas. Rural Italy might have better eating than the rural U.S., (lasagna>squirrel stew) but I think places like NYC and Chicago would be hard to beat anywhere in the world.

Do they have great Italian food in Moscow? great Indian food in Buenos Aires? great Mexican food in Tokyo? Maybe they do - I'm honestly not sure - but somehow I doubt it.

i think everyone completely missed my point. it wasn't whether we're the greatest or not...it's why we can't get better talent where it's needed. are the sarah palins, george bushes, barrack obamas of this world the best we can do?? one's smarter than the other two...but is our current president really up to the task? i don't think he is. i don't think he's got enough 'bottom' to him. if he were a racehorse heading into the spring classics, we'd bet on others. he'd be the one who's talented, but short on seasoning. it's not just the president, who fills the cabinet and potentially several spots on the court. look at our reps, our senators. is this the best we can do?

Hands down? Or in your opinion?

Stop it. Just because someone doesn't automatically think "this is the greatest country in the world!" doesn't mean they're taking **** for granted. That's a stupid argument.

Here we go. It's like saying "I love my kids and you can't make me not love them!" as if that's someone's goal who says "maybe, possibly, America isn't the greatest country ever"

Yeah? What's your proof of that? Because America rocks, so it must have the bestest doctors evah and I just know it?

Sure, wiping the Indians off the face of the earth and enslaving black people for over 100 years, that's compassionate as hell. Our laundry is just as dirty as England's, we just haven't been around as long.

I love America. But it's not un-American to question whether or not it's the "hands down" greatest country in the history of everything ever.

I would guess for the same reason we can't get talent into Washington to work as staff: open public season on the smallest details of one's personal life, going back to birth. Many say, "No thanks" to that.
