Why? You cant grow hay in the winter in NY and there is no discount for feed for farm owners

tell that to the feed man. How much do you think we pay for a bag of feed? How much do you think hay costs? Do you know how much a horses eats a day?
At the track with supplements it is around $27 a day. w/o supplements around $22. Hay prices have been through the roof. Last year in November in KY they were selling big bales of hay for $24 per.

The hay was @ 24 for the three wire at Belmont this winter. Right now at Finger Lakes the local feed stores are selling at 5.50 for first cutting. If your lucky and know the local farmers you can get it cheaper, or even attend a local auction. Either way it's much more expensive than in recent years. Last time i was at the farm there were @ 300 mouths to feed..Do the math...

I paid 35 a day for first class care with some training for Drug'S pig 2 year old in training I purchased at OBS JUNE.. I figure I will be eating this gelding beforew he runs a lick..

there barren mares they need to eat... doesnt have to be 1st cutting

A lot of the horses racing at Mountaineer now are supposedly being fed at a cost of $180-to-$200 a month. That figure includes alfalfa, timothy, straw, and feed.

key word supposedly. Plus at the track you can steal from your neighbors. harder to do at the farm.

costing me about $300 for bedding, hay and feed here at Finger Lakes. Thats without supplements and not full rations as my horse just started back into training.
