How lame. About as lame as how the quarterback is protected in the league.
The NFL puts in these ridiclous rules to protect the refs who even with replay still suck. What about the process of controlling the ball with 2 feet down in the end zone? How can what happens AFTER he has caught and controlled the ball in the end zone deny the TD?

This is spot on. I remember in the Jets/Bills Thursday night game last season, David Clowney caught the ball in the endzone, had two feet down, then lost the ball after he rolled to the ground. They called it incomplete. Possession, two feet in endzone, DEAD BALL, TOUCHDOWN. It's completely contradictory to basic football rules to say otherwise.

If a runner dives and breaks the plane of the end zone and fumbles when he hits the ground it is a TD because as you said the ball is dead as soon as is it is a TD. But a receiver now has to "complete the process" of making a catch? So if he catches it, get 2 feet in, controls the ball and spikes it is that not a catch anymore either? In their lust to control every single thing that happens on and off the field the NFL come up with bs like this. Instead of simplifying the game they make it more complicated.

I'm sure we will hear about this stupid rule 1 million times over the next 2 days.

How about the Ravens Jets tomorrow night. I was ready to make a huge bet on the Ravens getting around 3.5. Now its down to 2, and I did not know Ed Reed is out. As bad as I think Sanchez is, anyone can hit a few deep plays. Baltimore is funny, the front 7 is as good as it gets in the NFL, the secondary even with Reed is a bit iffy, without Ed its a joke. Im still going to play Baltimore, but wow did they get a lot of ESPN super bowl love. Ill go a bit smaller, and Im thinking the over might be a solid play.

The issue I have with the Lions call is that Calvin Johnson put the ball on the ground to freaking celebrate! He caught the ball, maintained possession, had a knee, an elbow, his ass, and two feet on the ground, but he rolls over and puts the ball down to do some celebrating, and it is called incomplete?

The worst part is that the play following this debacle had borderline blatant pass interference against the Bears in the end zone. It was almost like Roger Goodell pinged an "abort" code to his robo-refs or something.

I just watched it. What a goddamn disgrace. The NFL should be embarrassed. That's worse than the tuck rule. At least the Hochuli thing was just a bad call. This is an incredibly retarded actual rule that the NFL has, and it's gotta be changed. Two feet down, possession in the endzone is a touchdown. I don't care if the Kool-Aid Man bursts out of the ground and destroys the endzone after that, it's still a TD.

you ding the orange marker while most of your body is out of bounds, it's a touchdown-but that catch isn't? makes no sense at all. and yeah, maybe hochuli will be forgotten now, after this latest mess. the lions got robbed today. bad enough they're detroit, but to lose in that way on top of it. ridiculous!

wasn't it called a touchdown on the field? I thought that's what it meant when the ref holds two arms up.

why does the replay official say he's upholding the ruling on the field? who called off the td?

7-6-1

The only positive to take from that game is the GB hype-fest rolls on. I'll cash in on those cunts this year.

Cowboys -3.5
420/400

It was overruled on the field by another ref, then reviewed.

You got a terrible line on the Pats total. It was 44-45 everywhere. 6.5 was standard on CHI-DET, I bought the hook.

I think it's yet another way the NFL can manipulate the results of the games... But I'm a conspiracy theorist...

Wasn't the line like seven though? Lions were covering either way.

Jerry Jones should fire somebody at halftime for that debacle.
