Stonestreet just posted a link to this piece that ran on Oaks day. Recent footage of Rachel and her filly are included as well as a word from Barbara and others. It sounds like the operation was more of a risk than I think we knew originally, based on the location of the problem. They claim they've not even talked about whether to breed her, just her recovery.

Great segement; thanks for posting. Though I laughed at the name running under her owner, "Barbara Blank."

Yes, thanks for posting. That was great to see. Little Rachel 13 is adorable and her Mom is a real beauty.

i took it as being pretty serious since they kept cautioning everyone that it was very serious and she had a long road ahead of her. i was worried every time that they said there was an update that it was bad news.

Oh I'm not saying I didn't think it was serious, but sounds like the vets weren't even sure they wanted to risk operating, not unlike when someone tells you a tumor is inoperable. They could operate but it might not be survivable if they did given what they had to do to remove the problem. It's hard to think she'd have survived waiting it out with antibiotics and draining. At some point, you'd have to thinks sepsis would've set in.

Bloodhorse.com>Hangin' With Haskin> Rachel and Brent: A Love Story

Quote:
No one can explain the bond humans have had with horses through the centuries or the dedication of individuals in cases like those mentioned above. In Rachel’s case, the public was made aware of the heroic efforts of internal medicine veterinarian Bonnie Barr, who had been taking care of Rachel since she arrived at Stonestreet Farms, and surgeon Brett Woodie in helping to save Rachel’s life.

But behind the scenes was (Brent) Comer, whose devotion to Rachel Alexandra went far beyond the limits expected of any person....
