He is in the Clinton-mode of being fairly partisan and yet politically centrist at the same time. His experience in the White House and in Congress probably make him a good pick for the CoS job.

However, in 2007 Emanuel strongly advised the freshmen members of Congress to avoid going on the Colbert Report because they were always made to look like such morons. As a big fan of that show, I was pissed.

In all seriousness, Emanuel is a mixed-bag- he has a rep for being aggressive, but tends, from what I can find, to look at everything in terms of what it will mean to the Dems in the next election, so he can also be very cautious- he waited months before agreeing to bringing the contempt charges against Miers and Bolton, for example. Mostly, it sounds like he prefers the Executive Branch to the Legislative one, so I imagine he's happy to make the change. So yeah, what miraja2 said.

I love The Colbert Report, too, miraja2, but really- can you blame Emanuel for telling the freshmen not to appear on it? Heh. I give him points for actually knowing what the show is. That bit with Westmoreland and the Ten Commandments was one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

Awww... sorry, timm- I was addicted to balloon-juice.com for my political fix during the campaign and didn't check in on this board much.

There's a really interesting seven-part series on Newsweek's website this week about the campaigns. Very long, but well worth the read- it's called "Secrets of the 2008 Campaigns" or something like that.

Also, more on Emanuel, from Larison at American Conservative Magazine (yes, Timm, I do read both sides, as long as they're smart. )
