Interesting he had the nerve to show up for the Wood Memorial yesterday in light of this story getting out.

Paraglalo should be banned from entry to any NY race track and beyond. Enough is enough. Horse Racing is the business I've chosen to entertain myself and I would like to see it suceed on a straighter path.

from the gripping article above...tx reese
"Since 1996, Paragallo’s family-owned Paraneck Stable has been among the nation’s leading racing outfits, starting 4,686 runners that have earned $20.6 million in purse money."

Can this be accurate, 4686 runners ? That's 390.5 runners per year '96-'09.
Or is that 4686 starts ? Either way , can some one explain the rationality behind these numbers ? I'm dumbfounded .

If your ego requires that your stable 'be among the nation's leading racing outfits' and but you want to do it on the cheap, you send out vast numbers of horses in lower level races.

My lazy riding horse eats a bale a day and his on the thin side. Horses are grazers and would eat almost constantly if they could. Watch them in a pasture, almost always nibbling. Ever see them when they stick their faces in a big tub of grain? That's alot of expensive food going down that pipe. Mares that are expected to be healthy enough to conceive and carry and deliver a healthy foal should be on a pretty good diet. Sure, backyard breeders all over the world get foals out of mangy mares but no one is expecting those foals to to 1:10 flat for 6f at Belmont in a couple of years. If you are trying to raise successful race horses you have to start with healthy mares. Healthy mares come from good feeding and veterinary care.

Edit to add: The original story stinks from the moment EP says he was sending the mare to a FLA breeder who was going to breed them his stallions. His stallions are in NY. There is no FLA breeder. It was a ruse to cover the fact that he made a deal with a known shady shipper to get the mares off his property. I hope that Ms. Scheidy at AC4H is not holding her breath waiting for money from EP to pay for the care of those horses.

I've posted the sme thing several places, so I'll repeat it again:

Paragallo breeds and races scores and scores of NYbreds in "cheap 7.5 claiming races" The run every week and finish "up the track". I handicap NY racing EVERY DAY. Just at AQU INNER alone he raced 180 with 7% winning.

PARAGALLO IS THE POSTER BOY FOR NYS breeding program gone awry. What does anyone think he does with the hundreds and hundreds of nybreds AFTER they can't race anymore?

He abandons them in a field somewhere, starves them and calls the killer buyer. Disposable race horses to feed fat Ernie's ego. That folks, is the BOTTOM line here.

NYRA knows this...but hey Paragallo fills those cheap race cards for PJ CAMPO, VP of RACING at NYRA and the BROTHER of Paragallo's trainer, JOHN CAMPO. Any questions after this re NYRA?

Racing board investigating Paragallo's farm
By Matt Hegarty

http://www.drf.com/news/article/102814.html

The New York State Racing and Wagering Board announced Tuesday it was investigating the treatment of horses at New York owner Ernie Paragallo's Center Brook Farm.

Paragallo said late Tuesday that he welcomed the investigation, which arose after seven of his horses were discovered in a paddock at a livestock auction in New York last week. The horses, according to the welfare organizations that bought them out of the pen, were malnourished and were awaiting shipment to a slaughterhouse. Another 13 horses owned by Paragallo, according to the organizations, were sent to slaughter.

"I told them they should do the investigation," Paragallo said. "These are serious allegations. They'd be neglecting their duties if they don't."

He's a poisonous guy. They won't find a thing at the farm. I drove by it Saturday on my way to Aqueduct. 50-60 horses in the fields in plain view looking winter shaggy, some a little thin, but generally OK. Suggestions from former employees is that he's culled from the band to the abattoir like this nearly annually.

In a release, the board said that it had urged the New York State Thoroughbred Breeding and Development Fund to cease issuing any checks to Center Brook Farm, Paragallo, or his racing stable, Paraneck Stable. The chairman of the racing and wagering board, John D. Sabini, a former state legislator, is a member of the board that directs payments from the development fund.

"I've said all along that there were horses on my farm that were thin," Paragallo said. "If they don't think I'm doing a good job, they can come up and take care of all 140 of my horses and do a better job than me." ~i think this sounds like a great idea!!

This is almost beyond my comprehension. Is Jennifer Pedersen the one who blew the whistle on this? Good for her!

CtC,

Many that have been involved with Paragallo in one way or another are providing info to authorities.

A lot of chickens coming home to roost in this coop...

Thank you, but the question I have is, did you know what it meant?

Absolutely NOT.
Four were rescued by ACFH from the to slaughter pen.
These four were too thin to get on the slaughter truck along to join the other 20 Paragallo horses who did.

I am guessing maybe 3-4 people on the board, in total knew what that meant.
