Default The Alabama or The Travers?

There are two more majors for the fillies, CCOA and The Alabama, with the Alabama being the bigger Prize.

there are two more majors for the colts, The Haskell and The Travers, with the Travers being the bigger prize.

If you owned Rags to Riches which route would you take?

The Alabama. It's a big race for the fillies.

Haskell and Travers without question. I wouldn't waste my time running her against fillies anymore. Talk about nothing to gain. Go for history.

From the list you gave, I would go in the Alabama and then the Travers. However, I would pick the Jim Dandy or the Alabama and then the Travers. I think it would be nice to give RTR a race over the Saratoga surface before the Travers. I would be more inclined to go in the Alabama. Be a nice little prep before the Travers.

The Alabama is like a week or so before the Travers. I don't think that's a good idea. Also, isn't the Alabama 10f? I personally don't like having a prep be at the same distance as the race I'm pointing to.

Very good points King. Then I would go in the Jin Dandy and then the Travers.

She won't run in the Travers, and the Alabama isn't a prep for the Travers either. CC Oaks, Alabama. BC is her best path.

I would go..
Coach Club, Travers and Distaff.

Assuming they do go to the Distaff, I imagine her top two competitors would be Ermine and Balance. The older filly/mare division seems pretty weak right now.

She would probably have a race between the Alabama and the BC too. The Alabama is in the middle of August, so I doubt they would "train her up to" the BC for that long. If they give her a long rest, I suspect it would be now after a 12f race that ended in a stretch duel. Because of that, I think there is a good chance she won't go in the CCA.
My purely speculative prediction is:
Alabama (at the Spa in August) - Gazelle (back at Belmont in September) - and then the BC Distaff.

I'd also go with the plan you state.

Bunch of fing geniuses here talking about running 1 1/4 on the 18th and then again on the 25th.

There is a guy entering the HOF this summer that has absolutely no business there. He ran Davona Dale in the Alabama and lost to Its In The Air and then a week later ran 4th in the '79 quagmire Travers won by General Assembly by 15 in 2 minutes flat. Idiot.

CC Oaks / Alabama and then see if the BC Classic comes up "light" and go there.

I'd like to see Nashoba's Key try the dirt. I believe she can beat those 2 on a daily basis.

the travers.

she's the best horse in the stable, and winner of a classic. to send anyone but her would be a shame. but i wouldn't run her in the bcc. not sure i'd send a 3 yo filly against older horses--3 yo colts, yes.

LOL.

Travers, Beldame, Classic seems like the best path to me. Maybe run her in the CCA Oaks too if she's doing REALLY well.

I think Tabor's the sort to evaluate, as he did in the Belmont, whether she's simply the star filly of the stable or star period, colt or filly. If she's just star filly you point to the Distaff and consider the colt races like the Travers knowing that you go to the Distaff. If she's the best horse you have, colt/filly and older/younger, and your best is pretty darn good, by my mind you've set yourself up for the Classic. Right now she can take Circular Quay. Unless another boy steps up, she's the marquee horse and should race as such. Azeri could've run in the Woodward back in the day and she didn't and kept trucking along with the girls..such a waste even if she did get HOY. That was the time to go. She waited too late. Tabor needs to go for it but there are big filly races so if he can mix it up, no biggie. Doesn't have to be all boys or all girls races. Technically the CCA Oaks is an American classic race along with the KY Oaks and the TC races. Rags has 2 already so she could have 3 classics, just not the ones most think about.
