There are no saints in Elmont
Sweetnorthernsaint to skip Belmont
Sweetnorthernsaint, who was the beaten favorite in the Kentucky Derby and runner-up in the Preakness Stakes, will skip the final leg of the Triple Crown, the June 10 Belmont Stakes, his trainer, Mike Trombetta, said Wednesday. "We don't want to overdo it," Trombetta said. "Now seems like the right time to take half a step back." Trombetta said Sweetnorthernsaint would be pointed to the Haskell Invitational or West Virginia Derby in August, with a prep in July |

Its a great move. This horse is going to win a ton of big races in his career. No reason to rush him. He's a gelding and he's sound. Just pace him and he'll be a big earner.

This Belmont looks to be nice from a competetion perspective. No big favs, shaping up as very interesting I think.

Agree this is the best thing for the horse. They could have ruined him if he ran in the Belmont and remember this is a gelding, so he has a chance to be in big races for years to come.

Yeah, I think you were the one that said it was harder to win @ churchill, Am I trippin? It's my home track, I luv it, I can't just bet on **** and watch on tv. that sux. I like to watch them in the paddock and run DTS (ha! props). For the Belmont, B&J is my horse, dunno, guess I picked him in KD and I'm not comming off of him.

good move by Trombetta to skip the belmont...would of had trouble getting the distance and depending how he came out of the race he would be benched for a while good to see him save for the summer races

This isnt really news. It was decided 3 days after the Preakness SNS would skip the Belmont. Trombetta may have played coy but we know better.

I'm relieved. I did not want to see him go to the post in the Belmont. Just didn't see the sense in coming back at 12F against fresh horses after a demanding series of races. Deserves a little freshening. IMO.

Great decision to bypass the Belmont. Probably very tough to do considering he would have been the favorite and is the most talented IMO, but they are factoring their geldings health into things and that is important. Mentions the WV Derby as a possible return. He's a gelding, so theres no value for him a a stallion prospect, meaning that they would be smart to take the winners share of 750K against Grade 3 runners instead of trying the Haskell against Grade 1 competition.

He is a money machine waiting to happen . I think he will be running in stakes for a few years with his share of wins. No TC so treat him like a nice stakes horse pick and chose, cash checks.
