Absolutely the best race in Australia in my opinion.
Great list of nominations, although some of them would have to be described as...ambitious. |

Hmmmmm, i thought Turbo Lin was being aimed for this race???
I can't imagine Dylan or George or many of the O'Brien entries will make the trip, but you never know. Ahhhh, sorry, i got it wrong about Turbo Lin. This is what i had read, and got mixed up with: From Racing Post by Paul Eacott A TRIP to Australia for one of the top staying events at the Melbourne spring carnival could be on the agenda for the progressive Turbo Linn, trainer Alan Swinbank revealed on Wednesday. The four-year-old is unbeaten in eights starts, five in bumpers and three on the Flat, and Swinbank is contemplating emulating with his new stable star the same jetset schedule he employed successfully with Collier Hill. Turbo Linn is among 28 British-based horses entered for the Melbourne Cup at Flemington on November 6. She also has an entry in the Caulfield Cup on October 20, a race which is favoured by Swinbank at this stage. He said: “It's still early days, but we popped in an entry. It all depends what happens over the next few months but the Caulfield Cup is more of an option at this stage. “We won't be going to Deauville with Turbo Linn this weekend, so one of the Park Hill Stakes or Stockholm Cup will be next, and then we will have a look at the Caulfield Cup." Ascot Gold Cup hero Yeats is among five nominated by Aidan O'Brien for the Emirates-sponsored Melbourne Cup, the weights for which will be published on September 3. Yeats finished seventh in the Australian feature last season and was described as a "possible" for the race on Thursday, along with stablemates Hitchcock, Mahler, Scorpion and Septimus.

Just found this on Blue Monday
from Racing Post by Racing Post staff . BLUE MONDAY, third to Notnowcato in last year's Juddmonte International Stakes at York, is likely to make his Australian debut in the next fortnight. The six-year-old has moved from Roger Charlton, for whom he ran his last race when fourth in the Canadian International over nine months ago, to join David Hayes. The latter has compared Blue Monday favourably with his father Colin's last Cox Plate winner, Almaarad, who was transferred from John Dunlop in 1989. “He's got similar form in Europe to Almaarad prior to kicking off and, if he can convert, he'll be a genuine weight-for-age horse,” Hayes told Fox Sports in Australia. “We'll see what happens but I wouldn't expect him to be competitive until he gets to a mile and beyond. “He's that style of horse. He'd find them too sharp over 1400m, but he'll probably have to kick off in a race like the Liston, at Caulfield on Saturday week, because he hasn't raced for so long.”
