Storm Cat - Xtra Heat 2yo colt
Debuts at Laurel later on today.
The horse brought just $125K at KEE APR --- a mere 375K less than Storm Cat's listed stud fee. |

Is he crooked or what? Or perhaps he scoped bad?

I don't think any of her babies have sold well. I saw Southwestern Heat or whatever his name is at Taylor Made and wasn't all that impressed.

SW Heat ran awfully well at Pimlico on Preakness day. He's on the improve, for certain, after sort of disappointing early.
Perhaps this one was underrated at the sale? Working up a storm and this field ain't much. 3-1 ML seems fair.

as I recall, and correct me if I'm wrong, but xtra heat was little and not very pretty with almost no pedigree....three strikes rule.

Yes, but, she was quick and was also kin to a multiple Graded Stakes placed two-year-old. Star spritners rarely sell for peanuts at 2yo sales.
I loved how Jerry Brown would say that he wanted to buy her off of the numbers and pattern she had on thoro-graph, but she failed the vet so he didn't. The same was true at the 2yo sale from what I've heard. |

You bet.
I'm playing LRL and Saratoga in tandem. I actually had a winning day at Saratoga yesterday.....I'm still deep in the red however. |

I know a trainer on a major circuit that said they were the underbidders on her as a 2 yo in training. I told them that since she sold for 5k I understood why they just couldn't just wreck the budget on one horse. The person did not think it was funny.

Yeah I heard she wasn't the looker you'd be hoping for with achievements like that. I mean she got the Storm Cat,etc. bookings based on really only those right? The speed aspect is what got her those achievements so I include that indirectly. Not the conformation or the pedigree although we all know some stallions will get booked to nags with one tooth if they can pay the farm hundred thousand dollar fees for the privilege. Not sure where they get off sending her to Storm Cat though with those knees of his and her physical issues. I'm drawing a blank a bit but doesn't Rahy have pretty good legs? I say send her to him not just for that but the more I look at the cross the better it seems. Go to the Stallion Register and do a hypo for Rahy/Xtra Heat. There's actually a mare by Blushing Groom out of a Hatchet Man mare (Rahy's sire over Xtra Heat's BMS) named Erimo Symphony that was sent to Japan, didn't rock the racing world herself, but was bred to horses like Brian's Time and Sunday Silence, one of whom won 100K+ and a G3. Of course the cross with SS adds the Halo that Rahy brings in via his BMS and look what they got out of it. Just putting that out there. Food for thought...not that they care what I think. Oh and a possible smaller horse may not go for the $$ at the sales but it's easier on the frame for starters if the frame's kinda warped plus the offspring aren't selling as well as they could anyway so the worst that could happen is they spend a little less and get a similar sort of crooked-thanks-to-his-mama foal with a top sire. A mare built like this is breed to race IMHO. Wasting $500,000 may be possible for some folks but it makes me fidget just thinking about it. I sure hope he turns into something. She was a blast to root for and I really want them to make it. |

Poor X Rated Cat, really put ont he air brakes in that race. Might have a breathing problem or something, as he is SO fast in his workouts. |

Like to think he could still win a graded stake one of these days. |
