Someone (I think Cherie) told us that John's Call is still stabled in Saratoga, in the row of stables across from Sumwon, down all the way on the right.

Some interesting things I recall about JC:

John's Call was a $4,000 yearling who didn't win his first stake until age 8.

He raced over the hurdles at one time.

When Da Hoss returned from his 23 month layoff, he won a Colonial Downs allowance race by about a length, with John's Call running 2nd. The next month, Da Hoss won the Breeders Cup Mile for the second time.

The venerable John's Call? Hope she can get some of his longevity out of that stall. Didn't he run in the money at age 9 or so in the BC Turf? Pulling a Scavs (too lazy to look it up).

*Okay, I looked it up. He ran third at CD in 2000 to Kalanisi (by less than a length) at 9yrs old. I was there, but too many brain cells have been damaged since*

There have been 3 Grade 1 winners at age 9 in North America... The Tin Man, John Henry and John's Call. Pretty short list.

has anybody won a GR1 at 10? At this point I would say that The Tin Man would have a good shot at it.

None that I know of.

What's pretty amazing about John Henry is that he won at least one stake a year from his two-year-old season through his nine year old season.

At age 2: He won the Lafayette Futurity by a head over the filly Lil' Liza Jayne (who was 14-for-33 and a stakes winner at 2, 3, and 4) The 3rd place finisher was 24 time winner, and multiple Stakes winner Sound Note

At age 3: John Henry won two stakes. One a 12 length victory in the Grade 3 Round Table at AP. The other a stake win at Penn National.

At age 4: He won a division of the HP Russell Stake at Santa Anita

At age 5: He won four Grade 1 races and 8 Graded stakes overall

At age 6: He was a multiple Grade 1 winner on dirt and won three Grade 1's on turf, not including the ungraded inaugural Arlington Million.

At age 7: Won Grade 1 races on both surfaces.

At age 8: Two Graded Stakes wins, including a Grade 1

At age 9: Four Grade 1 wins.

What an amazing horse! Of course, if he hadn't been gelded, he would have never raced past age 3.
