Silkwood maybe to retire
A real shame to read this story. I know she hasn't been herself just lately, but jeez, retiring her after only five runs. This sport really does suck sometimes.
From RP......... by Tony Elves SILKWOOD, one of the stars of Royal Ascot in June, could well have visited the racecourse for the last time after disappointing in the Darley Yorkshire Oaks last month. The daughter of Singspiel had been sent off as second favourite for that Group 1 event at York's Ebor meeting when attempting to lower Peeping Fawn's colours, but she weakened over a furlong out to finish last of the seven runners to the massively impressive winner. The Sheikh Mohammed-owned filly had been a revelation at the royal meeting when maintaining a progressive profile with a five-length success from All My Loving in the Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes. However, she had scoped badly shortly before a trip to the Curragh for the Darley Irish Oaks was aborted and connections may well call time on her racecourse career after just five runs - all this year - with her value at the paddocks already ensured. John Ferguson, bloodstock adviser to Sheikh Mohammed, said: “We didn't see the real Silkwood at York and she won't run again until she is right again but at this stage retirement is a possibility.”

I wouldn't mind so much if she had reached the level of her ability on the track and had proved herself, but the way she won the Gr2 at Ascot she is a Gr1 filly. No doubt about it.
What is wrong with putting her away for next season, let her overcome whatever problem she has naturally and let her take her chance in a few Gr1 races next year? This is exactly by these big owners and stud operations are bad for racing.
