Default Halloween HOrse show....

OK, I need opinions on whether I should do this as my halloween costume for a halloween horse show. I don't want to offend anyone. I wanted to do an indian maiden and indian boy (my nephew) riding my horse Buck and paint Buck as an indian war pony. But my nephew wants to be an army man to support our troops (he is 7 years old so I think this is a wonderful thing he is doing) so for his costume contest, I am just going to make some camo stuff (saddle pad, wraps, etc...) for Buck.

That left me out. They have an adult contest on your horse so I thought of dressing up as a mobster. Here is what I think may conflict with some horse lovers- For Buck I was going to get a white sheet and cut it out around his neck so that his head would be sticking out. I would put fake blood running down the sheet around his neck.

Is this to graffic for horse lovers? I have a warped sense of humor. I love my horse and would never do anything to hurt him, but I think it is a funny costume.

I don't think it's too graphic, but can't you at least get him a fedora, too? Would he wear it?

You could drape a bedsheet over Buck and he could go as Khartoum from "The Godfather." THAT might offend some people, but I'd find it hilarious.

This is what I was intending it to be. Drape the sheet over his head and lay the rest over his body having fake blood drip down from his neck down the sheet.

I think it is a funny idea, but I don't want to offend the masses of horse people at the show.

That's why I'd suggest a fedora, if he'll tolerate it. Without making him look a bit more like a gangster, I'm not sure if people will know what he is.

You could always put a curly wig on him, dress as a gangster yourself and tell everyone your moll has a bit of a horse face.

Speaking of horses in costume- one of the ponies at Claremont was rented to play a unicorn at the Met one year (he, rest his soul, was a very handsome fat little pure white pony). He got the hang of the horn they put on him, and when he got bored waiting backstage would "innocently" turn his head and WHAP people across the face with it.

you could do the army thing. dress in revolutionary garb or civil war garb or even ww1. do civil war and you could be an officer and your nephew could be a bugler in the cavalry. all Buck would need is a blanket with US and crossed sabers.
you could always to the headless horseman
.

Hey, that's a good idea! Buffy, do you think your nephew would be a US soldier from an earlier period?

I'd avoid the period saddle- those... what were they called, McClellans? Comfy for the horse, less so for the rider.
