Default Interesting race calls & analysis before a race

Here's two interesting videos from 1981. The first is the 1981 Jockey Club Gold Cup won by John Henry; at the very beginning, listen to Jimmy "The Greek" analysis of the runners in the field and thier chances before the race. The second video is the 1981 Champagne Stakes won by Timely Writer, the CBS commentators take turn in the race call. Jack Whittker, Frank Wright, Charslee Chantey and Jimmy "the Greek" do a quarter of each call. Also, Before Dawn was a two year old filly racing versus the boys.

What exactly was the point of having a lot of different people describe the race like that? It made no sense. The really sad part was that it still was not nearly as disjointed as Dave Johnson's call of last year's West Virginia Derby. Is the video of that available anywhere? That one was a real classic.

John Henry shows a very smooth , low, long and forward carrying stride. His technique is impeccable. "Against All Odds" my friend. rip.
