Why Hard Spun is in the Classic
"According to an industry source, three bonuses are in play as part of Hard Spun's breeding agreement: $10 million for winning the Classic; $5 million for being named top 3-year-old of the year; and another $5 million for being named overall horse of the year."
Source: Philadelphia Inquirer For those of us who wondered why Hard Spun was not pointed for the grass or the dirt mile this is probably the reason. Although I thought he really could not win the Classic, perhaps with the weather and post position he might. |

He's in the Classic because he deserves to be there, end of story, regardless of what incentives the Sheikhs' loose change is being offered.
