There is more to this story than meets the eye.......Taylor was shot in the leg
or Femoral Artery and went to surgery where it was repaired.

To still be in critical condition implies he MAY have suffered damage to other organs such as his brain when hypotensive or with a low blood pressure for too long from excessive bleeding.

It takes no more than a couple minutes to bleed to death from a wide open severed artery because of the pressure involved.

Very very sad as apparently it involves a burgulary in his home which happened a SECOND time in 8 days. By all accounts in Taylor had made great progress with his brushes with violence.

Having a child had seemed to change his personality and his priorities.

Prayers are in order here as this one has more to play out here I pray he has not suffered the assumed the "anoxic encephalopathy" or large stroke from nerves of his brain dying from a lack of oxygen due to low blood pressure from bleeding too much too quickly.

I wonder if there using hypothermia here to minimize the injury to his brian like the Bills kid. Hopefully they are willing to give this a try as being in a coma post surgery doesn't sound good

Default This story is very upsetting.......

I'm a big Redskins fan, my heart and prayers go out to his family, as well as Joe Gibbs and the Redskins family. This is very sad, he's 24 years old, I know he's got young children as well. I pray he'll make it, and they find and nail who did this! I read an apparent home invasion, or burglary attempt? The second time in a couple weeks, is what I read. When you've got money and people know it, you become an instant target. I know he's had problems in his past, but I hadn't heard anything negative lately regarding any bad behavior on Sean's part. On field he's an extremely important part of the Redskins secondary, but her's hoping he recovers to live a normal life, no matter his football future.

I thought the cold was only to reduce the swelling in the Bill's players case?
So it was really just to slow everything down?
Dont see how it would work in this situation.
Still is tough. These guys are targets with the money.
It seems like 4 or 5 NBA players have had this same thing
happen but have nto been shot.

RIP Sean Taylor, another professional fallen victim to senseless crimes.

As I said above it didn't make sense the way it was handled by PR folks....I think it is likely because he still had a neart beat that he was taken to surgery to repair the artery hoping the neuro exam would improve which of course it did not.

Sad sad event for a guy supposedly finally dropping the gangster mentality for the birth of a child...

The hypothermia protocol is used to limit the inflammation in the brain that further causes less blood flow through the brain. In this circumstance it would not be all that rare to hear that Mr Taylor was brain dead on arrival to the hospital.......very sad indeed!!

Very sad. The 1983 birthday is chilling to read.

It glares that he missed the rookie function where they try to get these guys to disassociate with scumbags.

Not that there are "interesting" sidebars to this tragedy, but a few things from articles this morning..

- He reached for his machete under his bed when he first heard sounds. I think he had weapons issues previously and maybe this shows he was taking it seriously? Not many athletes that I've heard of would not have a gun nearby if their house had been broken into 8 days earlier.

- His 1 year old child was in the house at the time....Could have been even worse

- When his girlfriend tried to call 911 the phone was dead because the lines had been cut...very Cape Fear like. She then had to use her cell phone which caused a delay in the emergency response.

- His house was completely walled in and alarmed to the nines....How did they get in? Is that why the phone lines were cut...to silence the alarm?

If they were there to rob him why did they break into the bedroom, shoot him, not shoot the girlfriend, and cut the phoneline ? Did they actually take anything? Finding and cutting the phoneline in the dark and only shooting him makes me suspect about the whole story

DT CSI

I assumed they had cut the lines outside the house before going in

It's a shame that he resided so damn far from the "golden hour" hospital. Had he gotten the proper treatment in a more haste fashion, he'd probably be alive to tell the story. Unless the POS criminal that did him in runs off at the mouth, bragging about it, we may never know the full story on why he was killed.
Cannon, good points. Noone else injured, the house remained unransacked this time around. All tell tale signs of a personal grudge. The first time around was probably a trial run to see the police response time, to see if the house was alarmed, and to get a good feel for the house. Not to mention to send a message by leaving the knife.
I'm still shocked. To have it happen at a club is one thing. To have your house invaded is a whole different bowl of wax.
